Responsibilities (continued)
- Maintain a current listing of all resident care employee phone numbers.
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the facility's public relations and marketing programs and activities to maintain and increase census and to provide the community with information about the facility, its programs, services, and practices.
- Develop and maintain written policies and procedures governing the release of information concerning residents, employees, and the facility in accordance with current Privacy Rules and Regulations.
- Assist department directors in the development and use of marketing and public relations policies and procedures, and establish rapport between departments so staff realize the importance of their role in marketing and public relations programs.
- Review the facility's marketing and public relations policies and procedures at least annually and make changes as necessary.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and tracking of customer satisfaction surveys.
- Interpret the facility's policies and procedures governing release of information to employees, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, etc., as necessary.
- Ensure that public information (policy manuals, brochures, information packets, etc.) describing services is accurate and fully descriptive.
- Ensure that all employees follow established policies and procedures governing the release of information.
- Organize and implement continuing internal communications through bulletin boards, house organs, committee meetings, newsletters, brochures, public announces, etc.
- Schedule and participate in departmental meetings concerning marketing and public relations programs and activities.
- Provide creative support for activity and social services departments in developing resident programs, publications, etc.
- Maintain an adequate liaison with families, residents, and community and civic leaders.
- Participate in community service and civic groups to obtain information and seek support of these groups in charitable activities on behalf of the facility.
- Contact the news media when new programs, promotions, etc., are implemented within the facility that will benefit the facility and community alike.
- Keep the Administrator informed of newspaper, radio and television accounts of noteworthy items that may impact the facility or regulations.
- During emergencies, establish a public relations area to ensure accurate release of information within policy.
- Assist department directors in planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training concerning the facility's marketing and public relations programs and activities.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
- Follow established ergonomics policies and procedures to prevent work-related injuries.
- Prepare a departmental operating budget for approval by the Administrator.
- Serve on various committees of the facility as directed by the Administrator.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information; report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure.
- Interpret resident rights to residents, family, and staff as necessary.
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience: Must possess at minimum a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university, or equivalent. Five years of experience in marketing/public relations in a health care setting may be recognized in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Demands
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Prolonged use of a desk top or laptop computer. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and talk, read or hear. Frequent use of office equipment. May be necessary to assist in evacuation of residents during emergencies.
