Overview
Amazon is seeking a designer to work on visual and product design for the About Amazon website, which serves news and information about the company to external audiences. This role is on the Amazon News team, which sits within Amazon’s Communications & Corporate Responsibility org. The designer will work on the Amazon News design team and create visual designs for news and feature stories on the About Amazon site, including graphics, motion designs, and assets for use across web products, the About Amazon homepage, special projects pages, and the Amazon News email newsletter.
The candidate should have strong knowledge of web design and mobile UX best practices, an understanding of motion graphics and animated GIFs, and experience with design tools like Figma and content management systems. They should be able to manage projects, collaborate with editorial, production, distribution, tech teams, and external vendors, and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom-like setting.
Responsibilities
- Create visual designs for news and feature stories on the About Amazon site, ranging from straightforward graphics to complex motion designs that tell in-depth stories.
- Design assets for use across various web products, including the About Amazon homepage, special projects pages, and the Amazon News email newsletter.
- Collaborate with editors, producers, distributions teams, and technologists, as well as external vendors.
- Apply data-driven design decisions to improve engagement and outcomes.
- Plan and execute visual design projects in a fast-paced environment, rolling up sleeves to complete work.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional non-internship marketing experience.
- Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements.
- 3+ years designing interactive storytelling, products, and tools.
- A portfolio showing 3+ years of user-centered design work and process along with finished designs; proficiency in Figma or similar prototyping tools.
- Proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders, vendors, and diverse participants on digital design projects that evolve.
- Experience working with data and analytics to inform design decisions; basic understanding of SEO.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing around editorial content, ideally for a digital news publication or tech company.
- Experience creating visual digital assets at scale; motion graphics and animation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting.
- Experience designing web products around user behavior and using design to drive engagement.
- Ability to work across multiple groups in a collaborative environment; strong accessibility knowledge.
- Self-driven with the ability to take responsibility and work autonomously across multiple projects in a fast-changing environment.
- Experience writing design requirements for front-end developers and communicating with front- and back-end engineers to identify UX problems and define solutions.
- Mobile-first mindset with ability to set responsive breakpoints and recommend UI changes across devices.
- Experience designing at scale for international partner teams and scaling design systems for localization across countries and languages.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $72,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $155,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on location, knowledge, skills, and experience. Equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total package.
