This is a super fun position!! Our client, a globally renowned footwear and sports brand, is seeking a freelance PR Manager with deep sports experience to join their team for a 6-month contract. You must be local to Boston as this is a hybrid position, 3 days per week on site (Tues-Thurs). Our client is seeking someone with a background in PR for soccer, tennis and/or baseball preferred. They're also looking for someone who loves and digests sports media regularly.

Base pay range: $50.00/hr - $60.00/hr

Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid: Tue-Thurs Onsite)

Schedule: 40 hours/week (9AM-5PMish EST)

Duration: 6 Months

Rate Range: $50-$60 per hour based on your experience level

Timeline for Hire: 2-3 rounds of interviews then onboarding; likely mid Sept.

Job description

This is a contractor role on the Global Media Team. The PR Manager will help shape and amplify the voice of a global footwear brand across earned media channels, and will craft and execute seasonal global PR strategies aligned with the Go-to-Market (GTM) plan, energizing the brand during key cultural and sporting moments—including The World Cup, Tennis Grand Slams, and strategic retail product launches with athletes. The role requires collaboration with Global Marketing, Sports Marketing, Product, Social Media, and Regional PR/Marketing teams to ensure cohesive messaging and impactful storytelling across all touchpoints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute innovative communications programs across the consumer journey, with a focus on sports and cultural relevance.
  • Lead product seeding initiatives across global football (soccer), tennis, and other sport categories to drive visibility and engagement.
  • Support PR efforts around major global events including The World Cup and Tennis Grand Slams, ensuring the brand is positioned with energy and authenticity.
  • Partner with retail teams and external partners to amplify product launches and athlete collaborations through earned media.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with key media contacts—traditional sports editors, emerging digital voices, and influencers across sport and lifestyle.
  • Create and manage PR toolkits including press releases, tech sheets, media briefing documents, and event communications.
  • Collaborate with internal and external creative teams to ensure alignment with brand briefs and campaign objectives.
  • Manage agency relationships, freelance contributors, and tracking/reporting tools to measure PR impact.
  • Stay current on sports culture, media trends, and consumer behavior to inform strategy and execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sports PR, communications, or marketing—agency or brand-side.
  • Proven experience working with media outlets and journalists, especially in global football (soccer), tennis, and/or baseball.
  • Experience in athlete/talent management and event PR preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Energetic team player with a proactive attitude and a passion for sports and culture.
