Under the work direction of the Performing Arts Theatre Manager/Technical Director or other assigned supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lighting: Sets up and operates theatrical/stage lighting equipment including light hang & focus, circuiting, cabling, operating a Spot during rehearsals and performances for various events; hangs basic light plot with three-color wash, specials and creates a House Light plot; ensures lighting equipment is in proper clean working condition; reads light plots, adapts and restores House plot; designs and implements lighting for a variety of events; operates lighting consoles and writes cues; provides House Light Plot and instrument inventory; orders expendables and other materials; performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance; performs other related duties as assigned.
- Sound / Video: Sets up sound reinforcement (microphones, cabling, monitors) for rehearsals and performances; operates sound/video equipment, playback, writes cues; records events as necessary; operates mixing console to maintain audio levels; operates projector for screenings and presentations; coordinates and provides sound/video services for activities; ensures audio equipment is in proper working condition; performs other related duties as assigned.
- Flyman / Rigger: Coordinates and/or directs safe setup, installation, use and maintenance of rigging equipment (including the J.R. Clancy Scenic Control fly system); coordinates delivery, setup, operation, dismantling and striking of rigging; rigs scenery; operates the fly rail; hangs points, call bridles and ties knots; handles soft goods and hard set pieces; operates rigging during load-ins, shows and load-outs; assists outside riggers to install and strike equipment; identifies additional rigging equipment needs; performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance; adheres to safety standards; performs other related duties as assigned.
- Stage Manager: Overall duties include stage management, ensuring smooth rehearsals and performances; coordinates and directs work of technical crew, set-up/strike and assignments; acts as liaison between backstage crews; coordinates setup of stages; during rehearsals records blocking, lighting cues, prop usage, costume changes and entrances; assigns dressing rooms; creates and maintains metrics reports; communicates with front-of-house regarding house open, show start and resumption after intermission; performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- LEVEL 1: 1–2 years of theatrical experience in the relevant field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- LEVEL 2: 3–5 years of theatrical experience in the relevant field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- LEVEL 3: More than 5 years of theatrical experience in the relevant field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

KNOWLEDGE OF
- Terminology, practices and techniques in lighting, sound, flyman/rigger and/or stage management, with emphasis on live events.
- Hanging and focusing instruments; programming cues into lighting boards; other lighting design practices.
- Backstage health, safety and operational standards.
ABILITY TO
- Follow established backstage health, safety and operating procedures.
- Manage time effectively and handle workload accurately and efficiently.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Interact effectively with technical and non-technical staff, faculty, students, renters and volunteers; cross-train in other Theatre Tech assignments.
- Work with frequent interruptions, maintain attention to detail, adapt to varied conditions, and perform well under time pressures.
- Work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays as dictated by performance schedules.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
- Ability to exert physical effort (walking, climbing, standing, reaching, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs, bending and twisting).
- Ability to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception for communication.
- Sitting or standing for extended periods.
