ABC10, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate station in Sacramento, CA, is seeking a Visual Storyteller/Photojournalist. This candidate must thrive in a fast-paced environment, develop sources and story concepts, shoot, and edit stories on their own or with the ABC10 team. The ideal candidate is familiar with the latest video equipment, editing tools, and techniques to tell visual stories.

Responsibilities

  • Shoots and edits breaking news, general assignments, sports and feature stories for ABC10’s broadcast and digital platforms
  • Work as part of a team or solo on daily news assignments; collaborate to ensure the best content is gathered and published on all platforms
  • Be open to working weekends and varying shifts
  • Multi-task assignments while maintaining quality control
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories
  • Operate live shots with TVU, Dejero, microwave or satellite truck
  • Apply advanced lighting skills for broadcast
  • Contact sources and develop news stories
  • Attend editorial meetings, participate in discussions and suggest story ideas
  • Take still photographs
  • Demonstrate safety consciousness and situational awareness on live shot locations and events

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience preferred
  • Clear understanding of the principles of journalism
  • Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems
  • Proficiency with social media for news gathering (Facebook, Instagram, X)
  • News judgment, writing skills, photography experience, and non-linear editing skills
  • Flexible schedule, reliable and dependable
  • Knowledge of ENPS, EDIUS, non-linear editing programs, and Axis graphics
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to lift up to 40 lbs and up to 80 lbs with or without accommodation

Pay

Pay Range: $25—$28 USD
