100% Onsite Job: Technical Writer 3

Location: Elkridge, Maryland 21075

Type & Duration: 18 months of contract

Work Shift: Hours may vary between 35 - 45 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, test requirement documents (TRDs), user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical information and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
  • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
  • Conducts quality review of materials.
  • Publish materials in various formats, including page-based, electronic (basic and interactive), structured (HTML, XML, and SGML).
  • Collaborate with task leads, writers, engineers, and instructors, to develop and deliver sensor/system technical manuals to varying levels of detail and delivery formats.
  • Perform Desktop Publishing tasks for program/project reports, whitepapers, articles, and other documents.
  • Research and compile information from program documents, engineering sources, et al. to develop manual outlines and adhere to military/civilian specifications and standards of technical writing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Successful candidates will have excellent communications and interpersonal skills, be proactive, possess excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, and be self-motivated.
  • Writers should be “technical” to be able to write test requirement documents (TRDs)

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM discipline or related field or military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, networks and information technology -based sensors/systems
  • Expert knowledge with MS Office Products
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with structured authoring applications, such as: Arbortext, MadCap Flare, or FrameMaker
  • Proven ability to manage several tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Possess and maintain Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
  • Self-starter and engaged team member

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ technical writing experience
  • Knowledge of standard content management strategies
  • Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100)
  • Knowledge of standards – XML, SGML, HTML, S1000D and DITA for structured Content
  • Possess and maintain DoD Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI)
