Join to apply for the Middle School Writing Tutor role at Varsity Tutors, a Nerdy Company. The Varsity Tutors Live Learning Platform connects tutors with students for online sessions, with flexibility to set your own schedule, earn competitive rates, and make an impact on students’ learning from home.

Base contract rates start at $18/hour and increase for specialized subjects, with potential to earn up to $40/hour for ongoing sessions with the same student. You’re paid up to twice per week for tutoring sessions you conduct and invoice. You can tutor remotely using our Live Learning Platform, set your own hours, and be matched with students whose needs fit your teaching style.

Our AI-powered Tutor Copilot provides real-time instructional support, lesson generation, and engagement features to help you save prep time and focus on effective teaching. We handle the logistics—you invoice for your sessions and we process payments.

Responsibilities

• Tutor online one-on-one sessions with middle school students.
• Deliver engaging, student-centered writing instruction and adapt lessons to different learning styles.
• Prepare and share instructional materials as needed and leverage Tutor Copilot features during sessions.
• Maintain positive communication with students and guardians as appropriate.
• Log tutoring sessions and invoice for services per platform guidelines.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Expertise in Middle School Writing and the ability to explain concepts clearly.
• Ability to personalize lessons and adapt to different learning styles.
• Priority given to those with tutoring experience, teaching experience, or graduate-level education.
