Midtown Family Services provides support for low-income individuals/families living in San Jose and surrounding communities in two program areas: Financial counseling and navigation services for low income, working community members with basic needs; and reentry of individuals back into the community after incarceration in state prison.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying potential grant opportunities that align with Midtown Family Services mission and goals;
  • Crafting well-written and persuasive grant proposals that effectively communicate the organization's objectives, impact, and alignment with the funder's priorities;
  • Building relationships with potential funders and stakeholders to strengthen the organization's funding prospects;
  • Managing grant processes including managing timelines, ensuring compliance with funders requirements, and submitting proposals on time;
  • Developing budgets and budget narratives for grant proposals.

What we request of potential volunteers

  • Commit to coming in to our office 2 hours per week to review projects with executive director and staff;
  • Commit to volunteering 4 hours a week overall;
  • Observe strict confidentiality regarding any information disclosed or observed about individual clients, volunteers, or staff;
  • Hold unconditional positive regard for all clients of the agency, accepting and valuing all clients of the agency without any judgments or conditions, and regardless of clients' behaviors and choices.

What we will provide

  • A list of staff positions, activities, or other things we need or would like to fund;
  • A sample budgets and budget narratives for the staff positions, activities, or other things we'd like to fund;
  • Templates of responses to common questions;
  • Copies of previous applications;
  • Access to Candid and GrantWatch grant search engines;
  • A desk and computer in the office to work from;
  • Access to staff and other volunteers for discussion;
  • Coffee, tea, water, and snacks.

The executive director will also review all applications before submission.
