This role is responsible for developing and implementing communications to promote Royal Caribbean as the best vacation company that can provide worldwide travelers with lifetime vacation experience, to support the transition for the company proposition and contribute to the business goals of tapping in to the 2 trillion global vacation business. It also focuses on promoting Royal Caribbean International as the top choice of cruise brand for vacationers in mainland China and Hong Kong, China through effective external communications, with the aim of driving key business metrics and maintaining leadership in the region.
The role works with global corporate communications and brand PR offices to ensure consistent global messaging while localizing communications for regional markets, promoting more Chinese vacationers to cruise with Royal Caribbean on overseas products, and increasing the China office’s profile globally. It also manages corporate issue communications in collaboration with the global head office and relevant business functions to protect Royal Caribbean’s reputation.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership on media insights and communications consultancy for senior leadership, cross-teams, and global offices.
Design and execute the top-level PR advocacy and external communications strategy aligned with global messaging and business goals.
Lead annual, quarterly, and project-based planning for communications activities and events in line with the strategy.
Own innovative media events (press conferences, media gatherings, fam trips for China and overseas products) including concept, program, media exposure strategy, venue design and production, procurement, on-site control, media invitations, logistics, interviews, and leadership briefing.
Develop persuasive communications content and lead media engagements (press releases, editorials, product advertorials, newsletters, fact sheets, visuals, videos).
Ensure communications activities comply with company policies, stay within budget, and manage related risks.
Develop partnership opportunities (industry awards, executive speeches, summits, sponsorships) to raise visibility.
Pitch media interview opportunities for leadership and manage interview arrangements, talking points, and publication exposures.
Be the main contact for China media, respond to inquiries promptly, maintain relationships, and adapt to media landscape changes.
Lead corporate issue communications, liaising with HQ and local teams, preparing statements, and managing media inquiries.
Manage China press center social and digital platforms as an effective media toolkit.
Lead and develop a cross-cultural PR team, including talent development.
Lead budget planning and ensure spending complies with policies and procedures.
Manage external PR agencies to deliver high-quality outputs against defined goals.
Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, communications, or a related field from a reputable university.
10+ years of experience in Public Relations and/or Communications within a top-tier MNC.
Experience in tourism or hospitality is a plus.
Experience covering corporate PR, brand PR, product PR, and trade PR.
5+ years in a managerial role heading PR or communications with people leadership.
Financial management including budget planning and control.
Experience managing suppliers, including pitching, bidding, contracting, and quality control.
Developing and maintaining media relationships.
Native Chinese speaker with fluent English.
Strong working knowledge of MS Office.
Knowledge And Skills
Excellent understanding of public relations strategy development, working approach, and activity measurement.
Strong understanding of the China media landscape (general, business/financial, travel and lifestyle, industry vertical media).
