Overview
The Director of Communications leads strategic and creative efforts to convey the mission, charism, and values of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth (CSFN) in the U.S. Through messaging, media, and storytelling, the role promotes connection, visibility, and understanding across the Province and beyond.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive Strategic Communications Plan in collaboration with the Provincial Leadership Team and relevant committees.
- Enhance the mission of the Sisters by promoting an appropriate public image of the Congregation across all media platforms, ensuring alignment with Gospel values and CSFN charism.
- Supervise the Communications Department and manage the departments annual budget.
- Maintain active membership in Communicators for Women Religious.
Content Creation & Media Management
- Oversee all internal and external communications, including print, digital, and social media, ensuring clarity, consistency, and mission alignment.
- Write, design, and publish key publications: Province News (internal, 2-3 times a week)
- Nazareth Connections (external, triannual)
- Nazareth Encounters (external, monthly e-newsletter)
- Press releases, advertisements, and special announcements
- Direct livestreams and virtual events (Zoom).
- Monitor secular and Catholic media coverage, identifying opportunities and risks for CSFN visibility.
- Scan digital platforms for critical alerts and emerging issues relevant to the Province.
- Work collaboratively with the Province Leadership Team, Development Office, Vocation Office, and Province Communications Coordinating Committee to ensure cohesive messaging and shared goals.
- Provide communications support for special events, including collateral development, photography, and videography.
- Cultivate relationships across CSFN constituencies to foster dialogue, unity, and shared mission.
- Maintain and update the Provinces Crisis Management Plan; serve as the primary communications contact in times of crisis (available 24/7 as needed).
- Other special projects as needs arise.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Masters degree (preferred) in Communications, Public Relations, or related field
- 510 years in communications leadership within nonprofit or corporate settings
- Support for and commitment to the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, the Catholic Church, and the role of women religious in the Church and society
- Skilled in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, video editing, Zoom, livestreaming, Constant Contact, and website management
- Strong background in writing, editing, photography, videography, and publication design
- Ability to balance visionary planning with day-to-day execution
- Responsive in a timely manner, empathetic, and team-oriented, willing to listen
- Willingness and ability to travel
