As an Interior Project Designer (Technical) at DES Architects + Engineers, you will translate design concepts into constructible details. This role requires a strong focus on technical precision as you develop and refine detailed documentation, specifications, and drawings for a diverse range of interior projects. Responsibilities
Lead the technical development and execution of interior design packages, ensuring construction drawings, specifications, and details are accurate, complete, and code compliant Collaborate with the interior design team to transition from concept and schematic phases to permit-ready documentation Lead all subcontractors and trades coordination during the permit documentation phase to ensure seamless integration of design intent Coordinate with team members across disciplines with a focus on technical coordination and integration of interior elements Work with manufacturers, vendors, and consultants to gather technical data, confirm product specifications, and ensure material application Develop interior specification sections, ensuring material and product selections are technically appropriate and documented Conduct rigorous quality control reviews of project documents for technical accuracy, coordination, and completeness across all disciplines Review project budgets for consistency with documents and industry standards Assist with the technical review of submittals for conformance with design intent and specifications Requirements
Minimum of 8 years of dedicated interior design experience with a track record of excellence in technical documentation and execution across all project phases Proficiency in translating design concepts into detailed construction drawings and specifications Comprehensive understanding of current building codes and accessibility standards (e.g., California Building Code, ADA) governing interior spaces Strong working knowledge of integrated building systems (architectural, structural, MEP, civil) and their interface with interior design elements In-depth knowledge of sustainable design concepts and products Experience contributing to Design Development (DD), Construction Documents (CD), and Construction Administration (CA) phases Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam AIA qualification, preferred or on track for IDP / NCARB Testing LEED ID+C, WELL, and Fitwel credentials, preferred Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on delivering detailed technical work on deadlines Agile mindset with ability to collaborate across internal disciplines Involvement in the local design community is a plus Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design or equivalent experience Hybrid work environment with onsite days in Redwood City or San Francisco on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship now or in the future Compensation and Location The typical pay range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 in total compensation. Compensation depends on the individual's skills, experience, education, and geographic location. Hybrid work schedule: onsite Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.
