senior packaging & brand designer (retail displays)

Location: Fort Worth, TX

Job Type: Contract // 20-30 hours per week // Hybrid 2-3 days a week on site

We’re hiring a senior packaging designer who can own end-to-end packaging (primary, secondary, and shipper), retail display/POP, and brand systems! From concept and dielines to production-ready files and flawless retail execution from mass to luxury products.

As our senior packaging designer, you’ll craft packaging and retail systems that command attention everywhere they live, whether on shelves, online, or in customers’ hands.

This role sits at the intersection of art and commerce, creating packaging that’s as stunning as it is strategic. From luxe designs to bold POP displays and store layouts, you’ll shape how our brand shows up in the world. If you love turning ideas into retail-ready magic, this opportunity is for you!

Email your portfolio to cortney@makesy.com and tell me why this role is for YOU!

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design retail displays/POP (PDQs, endcaps, sidekicks, pallet displays, clip strips) that meet retailer specs (Target, Ulta, Whole Foods, etc.).
  • Build scalable brand systems: typography, color, iconography, guidelines, and asset libraries.
  • Create photorealistic 3D renders and sell-in decks for retail pitches and e-commerce.
  • Partner with Product, Sourcing, and Marketing to hit timelines and cost targets.
  • Prepare bullet-proof production files (color separations, spot colors, varnishes/foils/emboss, barcodes/GS1, regulatory callouts).
  • Collaborate with print vendors on materials, finishes, and sustainability (PCR, FSC, recyclable structures).
  • Improve and maintain a master dieline/spec library and naming conventions.
  • QC product in warehouse and assure that all assets comply with the brands vision and standards.
  • Design for multiple tiers of the market: create upscale, luxury packaging with refined finishes and also design scalable, commercial-ready packaging that meets the requirements of big-box retailers like Michaels and Hobby Lobby.
  • Balance creativity with compliance: ensure packaging designs are as practical and production-friendly as they are stunning, meeting technical specs, retailer requirements, and vendor capabilities.

What You’ve Done

  • 6–10+ years in CPG/beauty/wellness/home fragrance or adjacent categories.
  • Portfolio showing real, produced work for packaging and retail displays (please include at least 3 case studies with process).
  • Expert: Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Figma.
  • Strong: ArtiosCAD/Esko (or similar), KeyShot/Blender/C4D for 3D, Acrobat prepress tools.
  • Fluency in print methods (offset, flexo, digital), color management (Pantone/CMYK/spot), coatings/foils/emboss/deboss, board calipers, corrugate/flutes.
  • Comfort with retailer spec sheets, ship-tests, carton labeling, barcodes/GS1, and packaging sustainability considerations.
  • Bonus: Motion, Photography direction, Amazon/ISTA knowledge, fragrance/INCI or Prop 65 awareness.
  • Systems thinker, detail-obsessed, hands-on maker, perfectionist, high-level eye for design.
  • Comfortable switching between concept sprints and production rigor.
  • Clear communicator with team, vendors and cross-functional partners.
  • Efficient processes and proactive timelines.
  • Growth in a design-first, product-obsessed culture
  • Hybrid in DFW
