Grant Writer: Central Management Office role at Uplift Education

Apply to join the development team at Uplift Education, a public charter school system in Dallas. This role is responsible for securing funding through local, regional, national, and statewide grants, maintaining relationships with grant writers and program officers, and preparing internal and grant-related reports and billings.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Through interviews and other means, gather information to understand projects or programs for which funding is sought.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of the organization to identify grant opportunities for projects and programs.
  • Research grant-making organizations and analyze them to identify likely funding sources.
  • Compile, write, and edit grant applications with strong expository writing; prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for grant submissions and related reports.
  • Review project budgets and make recommendations to present them effectively to grant-making organizations.
  • Develop individual grant proposals following each organization\'s guidelines.
  • Maintain contact with grant-making organizations during review to provide additional materials as needed.
  • Manage progress reports required by funders and monitor grant opportunities with private foundations, federal, and state sources.
  • Coordinate with the chief academic officer and school directors to ensure stakeholder representation in proposals; serve as lead author on proposals.
  • Develop and maintain a grant application calendar and a database to track submitted and awarded grants.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with high-potential grant funding sources.
  • Coordinate with Finance to create budgets and enclosures for grant submissions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; maintain grant administration policies.
  • Perform general grant administration tasks such as budget amendments and program evaluation; monitor grant budgets and program goals.
  • Gather data for reports and ensure proper records are maintained; communicate grant information with relevant departments.
  • Manage external grant writers hired for federal and state competitions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, And/Or Certification(s)

Bachelor\'s degree from a four-year college or university is required. Applicants should have 3-5 years of grant writing experience (state & federal) with a track record of success, including local and state government grants, federal funding requests, capacity building proposals, and funding requests to private and family foundations (ranging from $25,000 to $20M). Former teachers or education policy professionals are encouraged to apply.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents; communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, students, and parents.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; solve practical problems with varied variables.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn necessary software; use of basic office equipment.
  • Safety Duties & Responsibilities: Knowledge of safety rules and procedures; ability to teach and respond to emergencies and report hazards.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The job requires physical ability to sit, talk, hear, and use hands; occasional lifting up to 30 pounds; ability to work with a range of noise levels and interruptions; option to work from home as needed.

Other Qualifications

Satisfactory criminal records check, eligibility to work in the United States, and work authorization.
