Introduction

The project is an environmental and media company focusing on environmental issues in Africa, and seeks unique and authentic perspectives. They work with clients ranging from broadcasters, corporations, non-governmental organizations, print media and online news outlets. Work is not limited to water-based activities; you can also engage in terrestrial work.

If you are looking to acquire knowledge and practical skills to become an underwater photographer and videographer, this program provides training using dSLR cameras in Sea+amp;Sea housings, Panasonic HVX200 video, GoPros, lighting and accessories to film coral reefs of the Indian Ocean. The course aims to help you see and explore the underwater realm with new skills.

The program focuses on integrating you into the marine world, using breathing techniques and encouraging curiosity from marine life. The team will teach you to capture well-exposed and composed images and films. You can also learn star trails, time-lapses, and other land-based techniques. The course leaders provide insight on starting a career in underwater photography.

The syllabus includes direct tutorship, practical underwater expeditions, cultural expeditions, free diving training, and digital workflow/post-processing tuition.

Expeditions and Training:

  • Underwater photographic expeditions: 20 sessions over the month, including 2 pool-based sessions for techniques with models and 16 sessions focused on marine wildlife photography and videography (wide-angle and macro).
  • Cultural expeditions: 2 sessions focusing on water/surf-based techniques with models and on photographing village life.
  • Free diving training: 4 expeditions, including pool-based breath-hold techniques and open-water sessions for locating and photographing marine life; some sessions may involve models underwater.
