Audio Operator/Offstage Announcer at Journey Dance Competition role. This position is responsible for delivering the Journey Dance Competition sonic experience, controlling vibe, energy, and pacing of the event, and announcing routines as dancers enter the stage. The operator will manage the pre-assigned music and transition between routine music and filler music, working closely with Backstage Managers to ensure smooth performance order and coordinating with Studio Directors and Teachers as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Load-in and load-out of production equipment, and set up and break down your station
  • Announce routines from the audio board (no stage time required)
  • Control audio board levels for all channels: microphone, iPad, and laptop
  • Fill any dead air of the show with company-provided music
  • Communicate with the Backstage Managers to confirm the performance order
  • Communicate with Studio Directors and Teachers
  • Troubleshoot any problems that arise
  • Attend to all other duties assigned by the Event Director(s), as needed

Work Details

  • Seasonal employment with Journey Dance Competition Tour, January - June
  • Mandatory Team Training: Virtual Jan. 9–11; In Person Jan. 16–18
  • Willingness to travel by road or air
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Available Thursday PM to Sunday PM for travel; events may require Thursday PM to Monday AM travel
  • Travel from a specified meeting point or airport will be required
  • Minimum commitment 6 events or more
  • Paid training, travel, double occupancy lodging, and event meals
  • Ability to drive is a plus
  • Official government ID required
  • Background check required

Qualifications / What Winning Looks Like

  • Excellent load-in/load-out skills and ability to set up and tear down equipment
  • Ability to announce routines from the audio board (no on-stage time required)
  • Strong control of audio board levels for multiple channels
  • Ability to fill silent moments with appropriate music from provided library
  • Clear communication with Backstage Managers, Studio Directors, and Teachers
  • Troubleshooting and adaptability in a live-event setting
  • Willingness to take on additional duties as assigned

Skills & Qualities

  • Enthusiastic vocal/announcing skills
  • Excellent reading and public speaking, with improvisational ability
  • Strong audio technical background
  • Familiarity with live sound level monitoring
  • Ability to sit for extended periods; weekend work typically 30–40 hours
  • Physical ability to lift 30–50 lbs
  • Experience in dance/entertainment is a plus but not required
  • Broadcasting experience is a benefit but not required
