Position: Specialty Artist – MAC

General Summary & Scope

The Specialty Artist – MAC is responsible for maximizing sales in the MAC brand (color cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance) by engaging guests to determine their needs, assisting in selection and purchase of merchandise, and maintaining store standards (cleanliness and replenishment). They represent Ulta Beauty and the MAC brand to guests and support the Experience Manager through a focus on performance, people, and process. This role requires professional makeup artistry skills, exceptional guest service, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

• Meet or exceed MAC brand sales and service goals and contribute to store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, omni-channel, and shrink as set by Ulta Beauty.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships by interfacing with existing guests and a growing preferred guest list, and following up on guest inquiries.
• Ensure exceptional service by greeting and engaging every guest, personalizing service, offering samples, and recommending complementary products and/or services.
• Conduct personalized makeup demonstrations, applications, skincare analyses, and product demonstrations to MAC and Ulta Beauty brand standards.
• Study and practice Skill Certification requirements and complete as appropriate within the time frame set by Ulta Beauty and MAC.
• Remain informed about promotions and marketing initiatives within the brand and across store categories/departments.
• Book appointments for services and support in-store events that deliver an exceptional guest experience while achieving sales goals.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services; be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

People

• Contribute to an inclusive environment for teammates, guests, and the store community.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and Ulta Beauty app, to guests on the salesfloor.
• Maintain an active MAC brand sales clientele portfolio.
• Act as an Ulta Beauty and MAC ambassador by sharing product knowledge, makeup techniques, and MAC philosophies, including the “Back to MAC” program.
• Maintain strong relationships with MAC brand partners through trainings and in-store events.
• Participate in ongoing brand and category training to enable professional development and drive MAC sales performance.
• Collaborate with managers and colleagues to grow the business.

Process

• Adhere to Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow dress code and brand assets; maintain testers and workspace in hygiene-compliant condition.
• Drive sales by keeping the area replenished, signed, and faced, with tester maintenance.
• Maintain store and MAC operational standards, including recycling program participation and cleanliness of MAC areas and common spaces.
• Assist with merchandise resets, planograms, marketing displays, inventory procedures, and shipments using Ulta Beauty and MAC systems.
• Protect company assets by following loss prevention practices and delivering exceptional guest service.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Job Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma preferred
• Cosmetology or demonstrator license where required by state law

Experience

• Cosmetics artistry experience preferred

Skills

• Strong sales, product, and service competency
• Ability to build and maintain customer relationships
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to handle guest concerns calmly and multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Special Position Requirements

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Working Conditions

• Frequent mobility, standing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, and twisting

The pay range is $17.00 - $25.50 per hour. Exact pay will be based on factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, and location.
