General Summary & Scope

The Specialty Artist – MAC is responsible for maximizing sales in the MAC brand (including color cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance) by engaging guests to determine their individual needs, assisting guests in the selection and purchase of merchandise, and maintaining store standards, including cleanliness and replenishment. They represent the image, products, and culture of Ulta Beauty and the MAC brand and support the Experience Manager (EM) through performance (service/retail sales and in-store events), people (guest service and associate culture), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). This position requires professional makeup artistry skills, exceptional guest service, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Performance

• Meet or exceed MAC brand sales and service goals and contribute to store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), omni-channel, and retail shrink as set by Ulta Beauty.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships by interfacing with existing guest base, maintaining active contact with a growing preferred guest list, and following up on guest inquiries.
• Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by greeting and engaging, personalizing service, offering samples, and recommending complementary products and/or services.
• Conduct personalized, professional makeup demonstrations, applications, lessons; skincare analyses; and product demonstrations to MAC and Ulta Beauty brand standards.
• Study and practice Skill Certification requirements and complete as many skill sets as appropriate within the time frame set by Ulta Beauty and MAC.
• Remain informed about promotions and marketing initiatives within the brand and across all departments.
• Book appointments for and support the execution of services and in-store events that deliver an unrivaled guest experience while achieving MAC brand and store sales goals.
• Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services and be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

People

• Contribute to an inclusive environment that supports teammates and guests.
• Promote the guest loyalty program and Ulta Beauty app to guests on the salesfloor.
• Maintain and update an active MAC brand sales clientele portfolio.
• Serve as an Ulta Beauty and MAC ambassador, sharing product knowledge, makeup techniques, trends, and MAC consciousness programs, including the “Back to MAC” program.
• Maintain relationships with MAC brand partners through trainings and in-store events/promotions.
• Participate in ongoing training to enable professional development and drive MAC brand sales.
• Collaborate with managers and associates to grow the business.

Process

• Be knowledgeable of and adhere to Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Adhere to dress code and wear brand assets as directed.
• Drive sales by keeping work area replenished, signed, and faced; ensure testers are available and maintained per hygiene standards.
• Maintain store and MAC operational standards, including recycling programs and cleanliness of the MAC brand area and related spaces.
• Participate in merchandise resets, planograms, marketing displays, inventory procedures, and processing shipments using Ulta Beauty and MAC technology.
• Protect company assets by following loss prevention practices and providing exceptional guest service.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Job Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma preferred
• Cosmetology or demonstrator license as required by state law

Experience

• Cosmetics artistry experience preferred

Skills

• Competency in sales, products, and service
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to handle guest concerns and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Special Position Requirements

Pay range: $18.00 - $28.00/hour. Exact pay based on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, location, and business needs. Overtime eligible as required by law.
