Join to apply for the MMJ/DIGITAL CONTENT PRODUCER role at Nexstar Media Group, Inc. WMBB, the Nexstar-owned ABC and CW affiliate for Panama City and the Florida Panhandle, is looking for a Digital Content Producer. This role replaces our MMJ/Reporter positions across the newsroom. Qualified candidates will write and post original content and news stories on our website mypanhandle.com, post on station social media platforms, and produce content for use in on-air newscasts. You’ll shoot and edit video and produce packages, doing everything a Multi-Media Journalist does for broadcast TV and all digital platforms.

Location: Panama City, FL; this is a dynamic beach community with a strong news culture and opportunities to grow in a beginner-friendly market.

Position Responsibilities

• Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital, blogs and social) and report breaking news quickly; seek exclusive and trending content to grow engagement and local traffic
• Write headlines that engage and grow audience
• Package content to maximize page views per visitor and time on site, using headline testing and metric tools
• Curate and promote a steady stream of content to generate engagement and repeat site visitation
• Tell stories effectively, including producing short videos and selecting strong photos
• Analyze website traffic trends to guide daily content needs and longer-term curation
• Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management; collaborate on enterprise content and market web content on broadcast
• Promote and distribute news content on social media
• Report news stories for broadcast with clear background and details
• Review copy for errors in content, grammar and punctuation per editorial style guidelines
• Evaluate notes from events to isolate pertinent facts
• Determine a story’s emphasis, length and format; organize material accordingly
• Research and analyze background information to provide complete and accurate reports
• Gather information through research, interviews, or attendance at events
• Pitch stories to managers and producers relevant to the local community
• Receive assignments, evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas
• Discuss issues with producers or managers to establish priorities
• Check reference materials to obtain relevant facts
• Revise work to meet editorial approval or time requirements
• Shoot and edit news events and reports; produce and present reports for all platforms
• Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Write stories for the web and other eMedia platforms
• Interact with viewers/users on social media
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Skills

• 2 years of experience in digital content and journalism
• Ability to research, interview, and write original news articles
• Effective headline writer to drive clicks
• Strong multi-tasking abilities; organized and solution-oriented
• Knowledge of SEO best practices and AP Style
• Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to learn new technology independently and quickly
• Strong communication skills
• Schedule flexibility (nights, weekends)
• Meets performance metrics and success measurements
• Understanding of Google Analytics; Chartbeat a plus
• Proficiency in MS Office; HTML, CSS and Photoshop a plus
• Fluency in English; strong written and oral communication
• Minimum two years of experience in news reporting (depends on market)
• Strong on-air presence; ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Availability to work various shifts
