Springer Nature is recruiting for a Chief Editor for a new Nature Reviews journal – Nature Reviews Computing – launching January 2027. The journal will publish narrative-style Reviews, News and Opinion on computer science and computing applications, including topics such as fundamental computer science, numerical methods, computing architectures, distributed computing, high performance and parallel computing, ethical and sustainable computing, artificial intelligence, and emerging modalities such as quantum, neuromorphic, molecular and mechanical computing.

Responsibilities

The Chief Editor is responsible for recruiting, training and leading a skilled editorial team and developing the journal’s editorial vision, strategy and content. The successful applicant will work with the editorial team on all aspects of the editorial process, including commissioning, manuscript editing and writing for the journal.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in a relevant field, a strong research background, and connections with target research communities.
  • Previous editorial experience; line management experience is beneficial.
  • Broad knowledge of topics covered by the journal.
  • Excellent literary and verbal communication skills.
  • A commitment to communicating scientific ideas and an understanding of the Nature Reviews ethos and USPs.
  • Outstanding leadership qualities and a positive attitude to change.
  • Innovative and creative ideas for the future development of the journal.

A key aspect of the job is interaction with the research community, including attending international conferences and organizing site visits. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and networking skills and be prepared to travel when appropriate. Compensation and benefits

US Annualized Base Salary Range: $130,000 - $145,000. This role is eligible for an annual performance-related bonus. Salaries may vary based on experience, education, skill level and location. The US salary range may differ from other countries when converted.
