Northrop Grumman is seeking a motivated professional to join its Aeronautics Systems team as an Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB) Principal Technical Writer/Editor (level 3) in Palmdale, CA. The IPB Technical Writer/Editor interprets technical engineering source material to write and edit technical documents and manuals. This role supports our mission to deliver innovative systems and solutions to customers worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Derive information from released data and interactions with engineers, product developers, and subject matter experts (SMEs).
- Acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing production methods, and consulting technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.
- Identify and resolve moderate scope and complexity discrepancies within engineering drawings and blueprints that may impact data.
- Coordinate findings with team members and refer findings to established precedents and policies, including consulting the engineering group and SMEs.
- Assist in the review of products with the customer and advise on their proper use.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Technical/Professional Writing, English, or Communications) and 5 years of relevant experience, or 9 years of relevant IPB experience in lieu of formal education.
- Experience interpreting engineering data such as parts lists, application lists, notes lists, and print reading.
- Experience creating multi-configuration, multi-effectivity indentured parts-lists from engineering and LSA data.
- Experience with isometric IPB graphics and layout.
- Experience creating and reviewing IPBs using MIL-DTL-38807 or MIL-PRF-38807.
- Experience with military aircraft.
- Strong collaborative skills; ability to relay and receive information within a team environment.
- Experience querying authors for clarity and compliance; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance and ability to obtain/retain Special Program access clearance within 365 days from submission.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.
- Experience collaborating in small teams with different organizations.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering data such as parts lists, notes, and print reading.
- Experience with configuration management.
- Experience creating multi-configuration, multi-effectivity indentured parts lists from engineering data.
- Ability to identify and possibly work around limited engineering data.
- Experience creating and revising IPBs using MIL-DTL-38807 or MIL-PRF-38807.
Compensation and Benefits
Primary Level Salary Range: $82,900.00 - $124,300.00
The salary range represents a general guideline; offers consider factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Eligible for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonus where applicable. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
