The Software Business Area within the Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Technical Editor / Writer to join our materials development team to support our customers. This position is located in Huntsville, Alabama without remote work possibility.
Responsibilities
- Write, rewrite and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications.
- Communicate clearly and effectively to express technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences; acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to and understanding technical specifications, engineering drawings, and trade journals.
Basic Qualifications
- 5 years experience as a Technical Editor and Writer with a Bachelor’s degree; 3 years experience with a Master’s degree; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Experience working with military technical documents related to integrated logistics support ARs, Mil Specifications and Preferences, Technical Manuals, Technical Bulletins, IETMs, DIDs, etc.
- 5+ years of experience with the Microsoft Office product suite.
- 3+ years of experience with Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator.
- Have a current active Secret or Top Secret clearance or an interim Secret clearance to start work.
- Ability to travel up to 10% when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training as a 14T - Patriot Launching Station Enhanced Operator / Maintainer, 14E - Patriot Fire Control Enhanced Operator / Maintainer, Military Training Developer, 140A - AMD Systems Integrator, 140L - AMD Systems Technician, and 6 years related experience.
- Master’s Degree in English, Writing, Instructional Design, or related field.
- Certification in AGILE / SAFe (e.g., Scrum Master, DevOps, Product Management).
- 6+ years working with military technical documents related to training development, training delivery, and integrated logistics support (ARs, Mil Specifications and Preferences, Technical Bulletins, IETMs, DIDs).
- Knowledge of Government Printing Office (GPO) style guide.
- Advanced Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and/or Adobe Illustrator user.
- Knowledge of Beyond Compare and Ultra Edit software.
- Documenting Software User, Administration, and Installation Documents.
- Experience working with JIRA and Confluence.
Primary Level Salary Range: $79,100.00 - $118,700.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; base salary offers depend on scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
