Library Clerk Temporary - Grand Canyon Branch

The City of Flagstaff is seeking a qualified Library Clerk (Temporary) for the Grand Canyon Library to join our team. As the City’s Temp Library Clerk, you will support library operations and provide excellent customer service, including checking materials in and out, placing holds, shelving, and issuing library cards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Checks materials in and out, traps holds, routes materials to appropriate locations, and sorts finished book trucks according to Dewey Decimal rules.
  • Issues library cards and sells merchandise.
  • Accepts payments for lost/damaged items and may clear accounts.
  • Runs reports and acts as courier between branches on a rotating basis.
  • Empties AMH bins and participates in periodic maintenance; performs basic troubleshooting to diagnose and correct AMH processing issues.
  • Audits returned items for completeness and condition; troubleshoots damaged or missing items and reports issues to staff.
  • Answers basic directional questions and refers non-circulation inquiries to appropriate departments.
  • Works with staff to address behavioral issues on library property, including emergencies.
  • May pull and place holds for patrons, make calls, run hold reports, and maintain customer requests shelf.
  • May mend materials and maintain material quality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years of customer service experience.
  • Or any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the above minimum requirements.

Desired Experience And Training

  • Experience working in a public library.
  • Knowledge of books and authors.
  • Fluency in a language other than English, particularly Dine, Hopi, and/or Spanish.

Other Requirements

  • Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
