Overview

Classroom teacher responsible for facilitating student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing individual educational needs, and creating a safe, flexible learning environment. Provides feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding progress and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures student conduct aligns with school standards and district policies, and maintains the standards of pupil behavior needed for a productive learning atmosphere.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Eligibility for the Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate with the proper endorsement. For out-of-state applicants: a Professional Eligibility Certificate (PEC) may be requested if holding a valid out-of-state certificate. Check the Maryland certification webpage and ETS requirements for testing.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in English where necessary.
  • Exemplary organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and personal qualities necessary to work effectively with students, parents, and administrators.

Employment details

  • Salary: Commensurate with certification and experience based on the Wicomico County Salary Scale for Teachers.
  • Hours: Full-time 10-month position (190 contract days).
  • Contract Unit: This position is part of the Unit I (Certificated) bargaining unit.
  • FLSA: Exempt.
