Position Information
The Performing Arts department is seeking to expand its pool of part-time faculty to teach MUS (Music & Music Technology Classes) starting Fall 2025. We anticipate a need for instructors in Songwriting, Music Theory, Group Classes (Piano/Guitar/Voice), Choral and Instrumental Ensembles, and Jazz History. The ideal candidate will embrace innovative and inclusive processes, integrate emerging works and technology, and focus on high levels and techniques for learning and public service. This is an application pool posting for 2025 - 2026. The assigned location is Lane Community College’s main campus in Eugene, Oregon.

Essential Functions
Support student learning through activities that include:
- Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions
- Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching
- Collegial participation in faculty performance evaluation process
- Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations
- Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community, as specified in the College Operations Policies and Procedures
- Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and/or other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory
- Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students
- Other duties as assigned
Curriculum Delivery:
- Provide high-quality classroom instruction
- Create course content, develop and revise course content and materials
- Establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate assessment tools, and use assessment results to inform improvements at a program and course level
- Incorporate college values into the curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment including facilitating awareness of multicultural and diversity issues in curricula
- Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students
- Confer with students on course materials
- Deliver curriculum to students in traditional and online formats
Online Teaching and Student Support:
- Engage within the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI)
- Monitor student progress and provide coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success
- Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback
- Provide timely responses to student inquiries
- Ensure that all materials meet the guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Use effective strategies for teaching online

Supervision/Reporting: Faculty report to the Senior Instructional Dean of Arts, and perform instruction-related duties in accordance with the college’s mission, policies, and procedures.
Working Environment: Indoors; typical office conditions; may require sitting/standing for extended periods and transporting materials up to 25 pounds.
Required Qualifications
Required Education: Master’s Degree in Music or Music Education from a regionally accredited institution.
Required Education for Jazz History: Master’s Degree in Music or Music Education including 9 quarter hours of upper division/graduate level courses in Music history from a regionally accredited institution.
Required Experience: Songwriting
- One year teaching experience in music at high school or college level.
- Proficiency with elements of Songwriting curriculum including basic harmony, melodic construction, text setting, song forms, genres, and ability to create lead sheets and charts.
Required Experience: Music Theory
- Two years teaching experience in core Music Theory classes at high school or college level.
- Proficiency with elements of 1st year Music Theory curriculum and related skills demonstrated through peer review.
Required Experience: Group Piano
- One year teaching experience in piano at high school or college level and performance experience on piano.
- Proficiency in Group Piano curriculum and solo piano proficiency demonstrated through peer review.
Required Experience: Group Voice
- One year teaching experience in voice at high school or college level and performance experience in voice.
- Proficiency in Group Voice curriculum and high-level solo proficiency demonstrated through peer review.
Required Experience: Group Guitar
- One year teaching experience in guitar at high school or college level and performance experience on guitar.
- Proficiency in Group Guitar curriculum and high-level solo proficiency demonstrated through peer review.
Required Experience: Jazz Ensemble/Jazz Combos
- Two years directing experience in Jazz or large Jazz ensemble at high school or college level.
- High-level proficiency in Jazz combo/ensemble coaching and a history of organizational skills demonstrated through peer review.
Required Experience: Symphonic Band
- Two years directing experience in Symphonic band or Wind ensemble at high school or college level.
- High-level proficiency in wind conducting and repertoire interpretation; strong organizational skills demonstrated through peer review.
Required Experience: Choral Ensembles
- Two years directing experience in choir at high school or college level.
- High-level proficiency in choral conducting and repertoire interpretation; strong organizational skills demonstrated through peer review.
Required Experience: Jazz History
- One year teaching experience in music at high school or college level and performance experience in Jazz.
- Understanding of Music Fundamentals as it applies to Jazz.
