Adjunct Instructor - Music Appreciation at Fox Valley Technical College

Hours per week: 8.75. Worksite: Appleton Main Campus. This is an adjunct (per course) faculty position.

Job Description Summary

Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of instructional strategies that meet the needs of students and employers and promote student success.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are essential for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned:

• Learning Facilitation - Foster student learning by developing instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Use multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, including hybrid, in-person, virtual, and online course delivery.
• Assessment - Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to support success. Use data to measure outcomes related to course quality and implement improvement strategies based on evidence.
• Classroom Management - Maintain assigned schedule, attendance and grade records, ensure a safe and effective instructional environment, and support student engagement evaluation.
• Team Participation - Support the college by engaging with the department and staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
• Business & Community Engagement - Build and maintain relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners; promote the College and programs.
• Student Success & Support - Advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students succeed.
• Professional Development - Improve knowledge and skills through professional development and maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure to maintain accreditation.

Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Teach Music Appreciation courses online and in-person.
• Develop, revise, and refine course curriculum as required by the Dean or Associate Dean.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

• Master of Music (M.M.) or Master of Arts (M.A.), OR
• Master's degree and 18 graduate credits in music

Non-US degrees/courses may provide a different scope of practice in other countries; courses reviewed on an individual basis.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements

• Proficiency using learning management system.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
• Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies and delivery methods.
• Background check including criminal history will be conducted prior to hire and will be considered in determining suitability and competence.

Physical Requirements

• Sitting for extended periods while performing tasks and using computer systems.
• Mobility for attending meetings, office tours, or events within the workplace.
• Climbing stairs or ladders, if applicable to the job.
• Fine motor skills for whiteboard work, demonstrations, or instructional technology use.
• Clear verbal and written communication for interactions with employees, candidates, and stakeholders.

Work Environment

• Work can be completed in person in a classroom setting.
• Work can be completed in a virtual environment with Dean or Associate Dean approval.

Additional Information

• Hourly pay rate: $45.00. Pay is based on factors including experience, qualifications, education, certifications, internal equity, and market data.
• Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Adjunct instructors are hired on a per-course basis; total hours typically range from 3 to 8 hours per week, varying by course. Classes may be in day, evening, or weekend formats.
