Adjunct Instructor - Music (Aural Skills)
Utah Valley University invites applications for the Adjunct Instructor - Music (Aural Skills) position. The successful candidate will teach across the Aural Skills sequence (I–IV), guiding students in developing essential musicianship through active listening, sight-singing, dictation, and rhythmic fluency. The role offers an adjunct/overload teaching appointment and requires a commitment to effective teaching and student success.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses in the Aural Skills sequence (Aural Skills I, II, III, IV).
- Plan and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught.
- Prepare instructional materials and evaluate instruction and learning via written, oral, practical, and performance assessments.
- Maintain a student-centered approach to teaching.
- Participate in auditions, juries and master classes as needed.
- Submit student grades and all requested departmental materials in a timely manner.
- Attend required department and/or program meetings.
- Possible additional teaching assignments based on the candidate’s expertise and department needs (e.g., Private Lessons, Ensemble Coaching, Performance Class, Introduction to Music, American Popular Music, Theory, Aural Skills, Music History, Commercial Music, Music Technology, Composition, Music Education, or other courses in the music department).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the subject matter or a closely related area, or a combination of education and experience.
- Preferred: Master’s or Doctorate degree.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of subject matter and course content, and best instructional practices.
- Knowledge of current trends in education.
- Experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.
- Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work with diverse populations of students.
