Position details: Classroom Teacher – Music (Choir Director) – Maternity Leave, January 2026–April 27, 2026.
Reports To
Reports to the Principal and assigned district administrators.
Qualifications
Qualifications: Meet all standards required by the Illinois State Board of Education for certification.
Responsibilities
Planning
- Develops lesson plans which reflect the district’s prescribed curriculum using Understanding by Design unit/lesson planning format.
- Selects appropriate long-range goals for the assigned courses.
- Plans for the use of instructional objectives that are related to long-range goals.
- Plans instructional activities at the appropriate level of difficulty and duration.
- Selects a variety of teaching methods and procedures along with a variety of student activities.
- Incorporates technology into instruction as appropriate.
Implementation
- Reviews, previews and/or states the purpose/objective of the lesson.
- Presents instruction at the appropriate level of difficulty.
- Presents appropriate instructional activities.
- Demonstrates knowledge of facts and concepts of the specific lesson.
- Checks for student understanding.
- Provides guided practice in the classroom.
- Provides independent practice activities when appropriate.
- Implements appropriate motivational techniques.
- Employs appropriate levels of questioning techniques.
Evaluation
- Makes criteria and methods of evaluation clear and purposeful.
- Uses a variety of techniques to evaluate student progress.
- Prepares tests which reflect course objectives and classroom learning activities.
- Provides prompt evaluation feedback.
- Reports and interprets students’ progress to parents/guardians.
Interaction with Students
- Communicates effectively with students and parents.
- Sets and communicates appropriate expectations for student achievement.
- Demonstrates awareness of the physical, emotional and social needs of students.
- Demonstrates sensitivity in relating with students individually and in groups.
- Is readily available to students and parents.
- Promotes student self-discipline and responsibility.
- Recognizes and reinforces positive student behavior.
Interaction with Staff, Total School and Community
- Communicates and works with appropriate support personnel.
- Communicates and works with other staff members and administrators.
- Informs administrators and/or appropriate school personnel of student progress, behavior and attendance.
- Cooperates and communicates with parents/guardians.
- Shares ideas, materials and methods with other staff members.
- Assumes assigned non-instructional responsibilities and duties by sponsoring activities and/or coaching athletic teams commensurate with interests and abilities.
- Assumes reasonable responsibility for student management throughout the entire building.
Organization and Management
- Ensures that materials and information are presented appropriately to students.
- Maintains classroom/work areas for maximum effectiveness and safety.
- Manages student behaviors in accordance with administrative regulations and guidelines, school board policies and legal requirements.
- Establishes, communicates and enforces guidelines for student behavior in a fair and consistent manner.
- Manages disruptive behavior constructively.
Professional Responsibilities
- Strives to keep curriculum and instructional practices current.
- Selects appropriate channels for resolving conflicts, concerns or problems.
- Adheres to school regulations and board policies.
- Responds appropriately to concerns initiated by parents/guardians.
- Completes duties effectively and promptly.

- Provides and maintains accurate records and information.
- Provides adequate plans and procedures for substitutes.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials and facilities.
- Attends and participates in department/program, building and parent conference meetings as scheduled.
- Follows the Teachers’ Handbook and District Policy Manual as required measurements of expectations and requirements.
- Notifies supervisor immediately regarding any safety related problems and/or concerns.
- Participates in staff development workshops or opportunities offered by the district.
- Is required to attain continuing professional development units (CPDUs) as mandated by the State of Illinois.
