WDAF-TV FOX4 in Kansas City is seeking a dynamic and enterprising News Reporter to join our team. This role is ideal for a journalist who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative newsroom and is passionate about telling compelling stories across broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms.

The successful candidate will be a strong storyteller with excellent live reporting skills, a deep understanding of local issues, and the ability to connect with viewers in a clear, engaging, and meaningful way.

Responsibilities

  • Enterprise original, impactful stories that resonate with the local community across all platforms – broadcast, digital, streaming, and social media.
  • Deliver live reports with confidence and clarity, especially during breaking news and developing stories.
  • Write and produce content in a clear, concise, and engaging manner tailored to each platform.
  • Build and maintain a network of sources to stay ahead of the news curve.
  • Conduct interviews with newsmakers and community members to enhance storytelling.
  • Collaborate with producers, photographers, and newsroom staff to shape coverage and segment ideas.
  • Ensure all content meets FOX4’s standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Contribute to the station’s digital presence.
  • Take part in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience in news reporting
  • Strong on-air presence and ability to ad-lib effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Solid news judgment and a broad understanding of current events, local issues, and storytelling techniques.
  • Open to feedback and coaching, with a track record of applying guidance to improve performance.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency with newsroom technology, editing software, and digital publishing tools.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple assignments, and adapt to breaking news.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
