Overview

The Ophthalmic Photographer/Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for performing advanced ophthalmic photography and diagnostic (ancillary) studies. Position requires a thorough understanding of ocular pathology and proficiency in the use and maintenance of ophthalmic diagnostic equipment. Must maintain skills, knowledge and proficiency with new technology and diagnostic studies as they become available. Must understand ophthalmology day to day operations and assist physicians as needed. The Ophthalmic Photographer/Diagnostic Technician will continually demonstrate Patient Centeredness, Teamwork, and Excellence in the daily performance of their duties. This position requires the ability to be self-motivated, flexible, punctual, detail oriented, have good time management skills and have excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, document and report data on ophthalmic diagnostic studies.
  • Perform basic maintenance, upgrades and data back up of procedures on diagnostic equipment and software as per department protocol.
  • Review and monitor Diagnostic schedules for efficiency, orders and errors. Coordinate with PSS and clinical teams; make schedule adjustments according to departmental protocol and provider preferences.
  • Provide patient education, explain diagnostic testing and assist patient with completion of study as directed by provider.
  • Remain current with documentation and reimbursement guidelines, and acceptable ophthalmology abbreviations and terminology.
  • Perform liaison duties between patients, providers, and ophthalmology staff.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, pharmaceutical products and clean Diagnostic testing area per department protocol. Check expiration of medications and supplies in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
  • Responsible for cleaning and sterilization of office instruments, performing basic maintenance, quality control, cleaning, disinfection and maintaining inventory of ophthalmic exam room and ancillary equipment according to organization and departmental protocols.
  • Attend required staff and educational meetings as requested.

Qualifications

  • Education, License & Cert: Completion of Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) is required within the first 3 weeks and completion of American Academy of Ophthalmology Home Study Course in Ophthalmic Assisting is required within the first 6 months of employment for those candidates without certification.
  • CPR Certification preferred
  • Experience: Certification as Ophthalmic Photographer or Ophthalmic assistant/technician preferred or candidates with clinical experience will be considered. Proficiency with computers and Windows-based operating systems; self-starter with ability to learn new skills.

Other Duties

  • Provide orientation and training of new employees and recognize and utilize opportunities to teach other staff members.
  • May travel to regional offices as needed.
  • Cover as needed throughout the department as ophthalmic assistant 4. Answer phones, schedule appointments, assist with bump lists.

Pay

Pay Range $28.55-$29.40/hr DOE
