The purpose of a News Reporter is to present the latest up-to-date news to the station’s television and digital audiences in the most objective and accurate way possible, in a confident and easy-to-understand manner, and to grow as a writer, researcher, and reporter while upholding the reputation of WRCB Local 3 News.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Write packages, voiceovers, and live shots for air and digital platforms
• General assignment reporting
• Set up stories and communicate with producers and the assignment editor regarding scheduling, interviews, and story developments
• Generate new story ideas for the assignment editor
• Make beat calls and follow up on previously reported stories for new developments
• Read local newspapers and publications; stay aware of global and national news
• Attend editorial meetings with story ideas
• Continuously work on on-air skills, including live delivery and communication
• Work with and guide photographers

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Journalism (preferred)
• High school degree or equivalent (required)
• Experience focusing on hard news and investigative reporting (preferred)
• One year of professional reporting with live reporting experience (preferred)
• Develop and maintain contacts in the community
• Ability to research, write, and report news stories for television
• Typing and writing skills
• Ability to use or learn non-linear editors
• Understand ENG equipment
• Strong interviewing skills, a broadcast-ready voice, and professional on-air presentation
• Know how to write to video
• Ability to work under deadline pressure daily
• Ability to accept and implement constructive criticism

Note: The News Department functions 24/7; this position may require long hours, unplanned interruptions at odd hours, and weekend or holiday work.
