Overview

Hearing Reporter position with the California Department of Industrial Relations. Under the direction of the Chief Hearing Reporter and Presiding Workers’ Compensation Judge, provides assistance and support to Workers’ Compensation Judges and the department in adjudication and administrative matters. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies.

Responsibilities

  • Take verbatim accounts of conferences, hearings, trials, and other formal meetings in machine shorthand.
  • Take and transcribe dictated summaries of hearings.
  • Prepare verbatim transcripts and other legal or administrative documents using computer-aided transcription and word-processing software.
  • Enter statistical data in data management programs.
  • Copy and scan documents using various office equipment.
  • Perform incidental related clerical and stenographic work.

Working Conditions

This position is located at 3021 Reynolds Ranch Pkwy, Suite 130, Lodi, CA 95240. The incumbent works in a smoke-free environment. May require travel to other locations throughout the state. Prolonged sitting and computer work; moving and transporting stenotype equipment and documents in a safe manner.

Special Requirements (Qualifications)

  • Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Experience:
  • One year of experience taking and transcribing verbatim accounts of conferences, hearings, proceedings, trials, and other formal meetings in shorthand or machine shorthand writing; or
  • Possession of a State of California License as a Certified Shorthand Reporter; or
  • Possession of a Certificate of Proficiency or a Certificate of Merit issued by the National Shorthand Reporters’ Association (NSRA).
