UI Health - Staff Nurse I NRO Float Team (ICU/Stepdown) 0.9FTE Nights

Base pay range: $32.00/hr - $67.00/hr. Location: Chicago, IL. FTE: 0.9. Work Schedule: 7p-7:30a Rotating Weekends. Shift: Flex Nights. Posting Date: 09/02/2025. This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date. Salaries are determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. Benefits eligible positions include a comprehensive benefits package.

Position Summary

The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and supports patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. The role engages with patients and families to advocate for the patient, develops an educational plan, and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care. The Staff Nurse I participates in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities and supports unit goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and update the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from the patient’s family.
  • Share information and collaborate with the health care team to promote effective patient care.
  • Verify and implement orders from physicians and advanced practice providers; document accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Engage patients and families to develop an appropriate educational plan.
  • Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to changing patient needs.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and support staff.
  • Advocate for patients, families, and the nursing profession.
  • Integrate theory, evidence-based practice, and current standards to provide quality patient care as measured by nursing quality standards.
  • Assume the role of Charge Nurse when assigned and utilize available resources.
  • Collaborate with nurses to provide learning experiences for staff and students.
  • Serve as preceptor or resource to nursing, support staff, and students.
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth and development by identifying learning needs and taking action.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and participate in special projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
  • Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit-specific certifications.
  • Current advanced cardiac life support, or within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 2 years ICU experience required.
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a float team preferred.
