Scientific, Oceanographic, and GIS Application Junior Java Developer
Job location: Silver Spring, MD BOC is a recognized leader in providing Technical and Program Management Services, Information Technology, and Support. This role supports a federal client and involves scientific, oceanographic, and geospatial application development and operations. Responsibilities
Provide scientific, oceanographic, engineering and Geospatial Information System (GIS) application programming, system design, and system maintenance to ensure efficient operation of computing resources. Develop, enhance, and maintain CO-OPS software applications, adhering to change management and governance procedures. Create and maintain software across languages and technologies including Python, Java, JavaScript, Fortran, C/C++, HTML, CSS, shell scripting; work with charting tools (Highcharts, GNUplot), Mapping APIs (Google Maps, Esri, Leaflet), WordPress, ArcGIS, SQL, single sign-on, and AWS technologies (Elastic Beanstalk, S3, CLI). Collaborate with CO-OPS users to derive application requirements. Port legacy systems to new operating systems; recommend design improvements to enhance performance and security; ensure high-quality oceanographic data ingestion and dissemination. Provide troubleshooting and operational support to ensure data availability and accuracy. Address bug fixes and optimize applications in the cloud; support software life cycle elements (requirements, design, testing, implementation, documentation, maintenance, training). Maintain consistency across development, testing, and production environments and manage configuration libraries for scientific and GIS languages and technologies. Qualifications
Required (Minimum) Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years IT development experience. Experience developing, enhancing and maintaining CO-OPS software applications; adherence to change management and governance procedures. Experience working with users to derive application requirements. AWS Cloud experience. MS Office suite experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact with senior level management at customer and corporate levels.
