Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARYWatch your engineering designs come to life! As a Plumbing Designer II at Southland Industries, you'll experience the excitement of working on design-build and design-assist projects in healthcare, education, biotech, mission critical, commercial and entertainment markets. You'll work hand in hand with our model coordinators, estimators, and trade staff through all aspects of a project to create a design that is practical, efficient and cost effective. You'll also have access to internal teams using the most innovative practices in virtual construction design (VDC) and computational fluid dynamics, along with just-in-time feedback from the field.What you'll do:Monitors long-term project deadlines and ensures deliverables are met. QC work done by less -experienced designersRepresents Southland plumbing design to all project parties and attends in person meetings with owners, general contractors and AHJsStrong PM skills including creation of projections, plumbing design budget management, and ability to produce and follow change ordersAbility to manage multiple designers to meet deliverables, deadlines, and objectivesCompletes calculations, drawings and specifications related to fire suppression and detection systems for large projects Oversees entire lifecycle of large projects as it pertains to plumbing including layout, permit procurement, field surveys, coordination, creation of fabrication lists, answering and assist with field generated questions, RFI creation, and as-builts. Works under general supervisionRegularly exercises discretion and independent judgmentMake decisions based on issues and possible courses of actionMay Assist a few engineers and/or technicians on a project basis What you'll need to be successful:High School Diploma or G.E.D. required, Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred3-5+ years of relevant experienceExcellent knowledge of applicable systems design, such as HVAC, plumbing, etc., as well as general understanding of system operationsAbility to read mechanical and plumbing plansExcellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of employees, clients and general contractorsStrong public speaking skillsStrong computer skills, including Revit, CADD, and Microsoft Office Products, such as ExcelYOU Matter PEOPLE FIRST: BUILDING TALENT BY DESIGN At Southland we aspire to build a workforce that's as diverse as the people who occupy the buildings we design, build and maintain.
