The News Editor is responsible for the news section of The Xavierite. The News Editor is responsible for assigning beats to news reporters and correspondents as well as maintaining contacts with contributors for the News Section.

• Oversee the news section and its stories.

MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY

Must be Federal Work Study Eligible

Must Include a Resume and Cover Letter

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the News Section layout of The Xavierite newspaper
• Reports on all SXU and local area news events
• Ensures that the News Section is 3 pages of content per issue
• Writes stories following the pyramid news writing style
• Ensures all articles are written accurately, fairly, and with as little bias as possible
• Produces 2 articles per week and oversees section layout
• Attends weekly section meetings with the Editor in Chief and Deputy Editor in Chief
• Attends weekly general staff meetings
• Meets weekly with section writers
• Maintains weekly posted office hours in The Xavierite office (6 hours per week)
• Attends news writing workshop held by the Journalistic advisor and Assistant Director of Campus Life: Student Media
• Ensures that The Xavierite website has up-to-date stories

Qualifications & Requirements

• Current student at Saint Xavier University
• Federal Work Study eligibility
• Resume and cover letter required
