Position Title: English Bridge EL Teacher (0.1 FTE)

Overview
The English Bridge EL course is designed to expose students to reading and writing at a high-intermediate to advanced level of English language proficiency. Emphasis will be placed on reading strategies and the writing process. Students will be introduced to various types of literature and will be provided with opportunities to further practice and refine all language skills.
Responsibilities
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media in the instructional program.
- Prepare detailed daily lesson plans and provide a variety of learning activities consistent with curriculum objectives, with plans available upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Maintain ethical and professional demeanor consistent with district policies (Sexual Harassment, EEO, Ethics, Use of Electronic Media, etc.).
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy; supervise students and protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Develop and communicate clear and consistent evaluation procedures understood by students and parents in accordance with district policy.
- Demonstrate effective communication with supervisors, parents, students, peers, and school-related groups.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in English and ESL (ESL endorsements).
- Knowledge of best practices related to supporting all students’ ability to learn.
Reports To
- Principal and Department Chair of the building assigned and the District EL Administrator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Understands and applies general principles of learning; demonstrates thorough knowledge of subject matter in planning instructional programs that meet student needs.
- Prepares daily lesson plans and provides varied activities aligned with curriculum objectives; plans available upon request.
- Maintains professional demeanor and adheres to district policies and guidelines.
- Achieves curriculum objectives appropriate for the grade level and subject.
- Uses diverse instructional techniques and media; establishes effective classroom management and respectful student relationships.
- Develops and communicates evaluation procedures aligned with district policy; provides feedback to students and parents.
- Maintains records required by law and district policy; upholds school rules and safety procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as correspondence, surveys, and electronic media.
- Ability to write professional communications and present information effectively; respond to questions from individuals and groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members; communicate clearly in writing and orally.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical operations; solve practical problems in variable situations; maintain current job skills, especially in technology-related activities.
- Demonstrates awareness of school district requirements and Board policies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Regularly sit, talk, and hear; frequently stand and walk; operate computer equipment; use hands and fingers for typing.
- Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds; vision requirements include close vision and depth perception; able to use VDT for extended periods.
- Work is usually at one site; occasional travel to meetings or events at other sites may be required.
