Motorola Solutions emphasizes exceptional customer and user experiences through understanding user needs, data-driven insights, and thoughtful design. The Experience Design & Research team is a multidisciplinary group including Industrial Designers, UX/CX Designers, User Researchers, and Human Factors practitioners. The Opportunity

Integrate AI into world-class user experiences. We are seeking AI-Focused Experience Designers and AI-Focused User Researchers to join our team. This role sits at the intersection of human-centered design, advanced research methodologies, and artificial intelligence. You will collaborate with ID, CX, UX, Research, data scientists, and engineers to envision, design, and evaluate AI-driven solutions that are intuitive, ethical, and valuable to users. Your work will contribute to Motorola Solutions’ strategic goal of leading the industry through AI-powered innovation.

What You’ll Do (Core Responsibilities Adaptable by Role)

  • Adapt to rapidly shifting priorities and contribute to an agile, fast-paced innovation environment.
  • Champion a user-centered approach in the development and application of AI technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI (ML, NLP, generative AI) to solve user problems and create novel, delightful experiences.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to translate AI capabilities into tangible user benefits and design requirements.
  • Design and/or research user interactions with AI-powered features and systems, ensuring they are intuitive, transparent, and trustworthy.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices, ethical guidelines, and design patterns for Human-AI interaction within the organization.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI and their potential applications in experience design and research.
  • Effectively communicate research findings, design concepts, and AI possibilities to diverse audiences.

Specializations

For AI-Focused Experience Designer, you might specialize in:

  • Human-AI Interaction Design: Crafting intuitive and engaging interactions for AI-powered systems (e.g., conversational UIs, recommendation engines, generative content tools).
  • End-to-End Design Process for AI-Features: Experienced in the complete AI design lifecycle, from defining user needs to creating prototypes and detailed specifications for AI features.

For AI-Focused User Researcher, you might specialize in:

  • Holistic AI Experience Evaluation: Assessing the overall AI user experience, including perceived intelligence, usefulness, reliability, and how errors, uncertainty, failures, and edge cases are managed and communicated.
  • AI-Augmented Research Methodologies: Leveraging AI tools for qualitative data analysis, sentiment analysis, or identifying patterns in large user datasets.
  • Advanced AI Testing Methodologies: Employing specialized user testing techniques for AI and adopting emerging research practices.
  • Researching User Perceptions & Trust in AI: Designing studies to understand how users perceive, interact with, and trust AI systems.
  • Evaluating Experiences with AI-Powered Features: Developing methods to assess usability, utility, and ethical implications of AI in user-facing applications.
  • Generative Research Synthesis with AI: Using AI to assist in synthesizing large volumes of research data to uncover insights for AI opportunities.
  • Predictive Behavior Analysis: Understanding and interpreting AI-driven predictions about user behavior to inform proactive CX strategies.
  • AI-Powered Prototyping & Visualization: Using AI tools to rapidly prototype experiences or visualize AI-driven data for users.
  • Designing for AI Transparency & Explainability: Creating interfaces that help users understand and trust AI-driven decisions.
  • Data-Informed Design for AI: Using user data and AI metrics to design and improve AI systems.
  • Ethical AI Design: Identifying and mitigating bias and ethical concerns in AI-powered experiences.
  • Speculative & Future-State Design: Exploring emerging AI applications to envision future user experiences.

Fundamental Skills & Qualifications (Baseline for All Candidates)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in HCI, Design, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Computer Science (with AI/HCI focus), or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of proven experience in UX, CX, Interaction Design, Product Design, or User Research.
  • AI Literacy: Understanding of ML, NLP, and Generative AI concepts at a conceptual level; not required to be an AI developer, but you should understand how these technologies work.
  • Problem Solver: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify user needs and frame them as design or research challenges.
  • User-Centric Mindset: Passion for understanding and advocating for the user.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team and articulate ideas clearly.
  • Adaptability & Continuous Learning: Willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies in a rapidly evolving AI space; ability to thrive with dynamic priorities.
  • Portfolio: Showcasing process, skills, and impact; highlight AI-related projects if available.

Target Base Salary Range: $101,300 - $202,600. This range is consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law. Pay varies based on knowledge, skills, and experience; the actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
