The Web Developer is responsible for the development and maintenance of the College website. This person maintains digital content by working with the campus community, ensuring all content is accurate and assures that pages are up-to-date and follow established College standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE

1. Develops and implements search engine optimization (SEO) strategies aimed at increasing website visibility and traffic; monitors site performance using Google Analytics and internal tools and generates regular reports to track key metrics and trends.

2. Serve as the liaison with related vendors and platform providers for all website-related tools, CMS platforms, and analytics services.

3. Centralize all related vendor communication to prevent duplicate outreach and ensure consistency in issue tracking, updates, and follow-through.

4. Structure and maintain content to support search engine optimization (SEO) best practices, including metadata, alt text, page speed, keyword strategy, and semantic HTML.

5. Manage search engine marketing campaigns, including the purchase and optimization of Google Ads (AdWords) to improve visibility, traffic, and ROI.

6. Monitor and improve search engine placement through ongoing keyword performance analysis, competitor benchmarking, and content updates.

7. Create and manage public-facing digital profiles such as Google Business Profiles, Apple Maps listings, and other directory listings to ensure accurate branding, location, hours, and engagement content (e.g., photos, reviews, posts).

8. Plans, designs, and maintains Western's interactive website templates and visual standards to ensure consistent branding, engaging imagery, and optimal functionality across all browsers and platforms.

9. Trains college personnel in the development of the official website and related materials.

10. Supports college personnel with website-related issues using a ticketing system.

11. Upholds website style guidelines to ensure consistency with Western's approved branding, proper grammar, and compliance with current web accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1.

12. Design and optimize website and digital content for mobile-first experiences, ensuring compatibility across devices and platforms.

13. Collaborate with stakeholders to implement mobile-friendly layouts, responsive designs, and user interface elements that enhance engagement and conversion on smartphones and tablets.

14. Support integration of digital assistant strategies by structuring content and metadata for voice search optimization (VSEO) and compatibility with voice-activated platforms (e.g., Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant).

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities, Education, and Experience)
  1. Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, digital media, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience.
  2. Two - Four years of professional experience in web design or digital marketing with a demonstrated portfolio of responsive, SEO-optimized websites.
  3. Experience designing for mobile-first and accessibility-compliant web environments (e.g., WCAG, ADA guidelines).
  4. Familiarity with voice search optimization and structuring content for digital assistants (e.g., schema markup, featured snippets).
  5. Hands-on experience with Google Ads, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Google Business Profile management.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and other members of the College community; strong verbal and written communication skills.
Equivalency Statement

For those candidates who do not meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, will be acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Master's degree in Web Design, Digital Media, Marketing, Computer Science, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Google Ads Certification (Search, Display, or Measurement specializations).
  3. Google Analytics Certification (GA4).
  4. SEO-specific training or certifications from platforms like SEMrush, Moz, or Yoast.
  5. UX/UI Design certifications, such as those from Coursera or Google UX Design Certificate.
  6. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript or CMS platforms.
