Director of Power Marketing
is a leadership role at GridStor, a grid-scale energy storage developer, owner and operator backed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management. The Director of Power Marketing will report to the CEO and partner with leaders of development, M&A, finance and analytics teams to drive commercial strategy and execution. The Power Marketing leader will originate new business in defined regions in the United States by developing customer relationships, communicating GridStor’s story and potential product offerings, and proposing and structuring transactions for the company’s energy storage development portfolio. The role drives strategy development and execution of power marketing activities, ensuring profitability and growth while managing risks. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of power markets, a broad network of contacts at utilities, trading desks, and corporate customers, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record in origination within the energy sector. Role Summary:
GridStor is seeking a Director of Power Marketing. The Director will lead power marketing efforts in support of GridStor’s growth strategy. Responsibilities
Lead the development of a comprehensive power marketing strategy aligned with GridStor’s business objectives. Identify and evaluate opportunities for power marketing including capacity contracts, tolls, and hedges in GridStor’s target markets. Provide input on commercial opportunities to inform greenfield development siting strategy and assess power marketing opportunities for prospective M&A targets. Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including utilities, C&I customers, power trading firms, and peers. Secure long-term agreements with utilities and corporations to support the financing and build out of new renewable and/or energy storage projects. Actively manage and build relationships with existing and new customers in the chosen market segments. Evaluate requests for bids, lead bid strategy and lead a team for bid preparation, competitive analysis and management of procurement processes. Prepare proposals and presentation materials for customers and buyers. Seek opportunities and deal structures that allow for bilateral transactions with customers. Negotiate terms and conditions of revenue contracts (e.g. tolls, capacity and hedge agreements). Lead the internal support teams through all aspects of the complex sales process from initial engagement to closing. Remain abreast of energy storage opportunities in the United States. Represent GridStor at energy events as speaker or panelist and energy advocate. Qualifications & Competencies
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree Minimum 10 years of experience in energy industry; preferably in gas or renewable energy with at least five (5) years in power origination Proven track record of securing long-term power sale agreements on renewable energy projects with utilities and corporations Ability to lead, structure, negotiate, coordinate, and execute power sale agreements with internal and external advisors Knowledge of the electric utility industry and electric energy markets Working knowledge of Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) operations and electric transmission, with familiarity across SPP, ERCOT, CAISO, WECC (MISO/PJM a plus) Strong sales, networking, leadership, negotiation, and time management skills Solid understanding of power markets, regulatory frameworks, market dynamics, and pricing mechanisms Excellent analytical skills to analyze market data, assess risks and make informed decisions Ability to prepare marketing materials, presentations and proposals to pitch origination opportunities Proven leadership experience with the ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams Location & Availability:
Must be able to travel to Portland and work in the office. Organizational Skills:
