Inside Higher Ed . The Instructional Designer supports faculty in developing effective, engaging digital learning environments by applying evidence-based instructional practices. This role collaborates across disciplines to guide course design, integrate instructional technologies, and provide training and resources through workshops and professional development opportunities. Responsibilities Provide direct instructional design support to faculty in the use of technologies associated with digital learning and instruction in online and related environments. Develop and deliver ongoing training and resources to support faculty use of technology and course materials for teaching and learning; collaborate in the development, delivery, and facilitation of professional development workshops related to course design, technology-enabled instruction, and online teaching. Assist faculty throughout the course design process and provide feedback on research-based, best practice for effective course design and delivery; assist faculty with the transition of face-to-face courses to online or related formats. Serve as a resource to faculty on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accessibility issues, ADA, open educational resources (OER) and copyright guidelines. Maintain institutional quality assurance processes, ensuring continuous improvement of course materials and instructional design practices; engage in ongoing, self-initiated professional development to lead the university community in best practices and industry trends in digital learning and instruction.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Ability to collaborate and consult with faculty to design and develop online courses using ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate) and COI (Community of Inquiry) design models, and to evaluate online courses using the OLC (Online Learning Consortium) quality scorecard for continuous improvement. Ability to collaborate with faculty on effective instructional design strategies, web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and instructional software for online course development. Ability to consult with faculty to ensure online and/or hybrid courses achieve collegiate-level learning outcomes comparable to face-to-face courses. Knowledge of researching, evaluating, and integrating new and emerging educational technologies to improve student learning outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology or a closely related field. One year of experience in the role of Instructional Designer in an institution of higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology or a closely related field.
