Substation Design Manager

Manage consultants\' work, ensuring compliance and technical adequacy against approved. Provide detailed technical scope and cost estimate documentation for use by internal and external design resources. Perform engineering calculations and studies to support project scope. Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports of technical problems, investigative findings, and engineering recommendations. Participate in project estimating and economic analysis. Coordinate with design consultants and interface with internal design staff. Review drawings associated with projects, including manufacturers\' equipment. Perform conceptual and detailed high voltage and medium voltage substation design (physical/electrical), including basic layout, electrical arrangement, one line, three-line drawings, plan-section, grounding, AC and DC system drawings. Create substation construction drawing packages, develop bill of materials, and procure minor materials. General arrangement/physical and electrical layout, electrical equipment plans, elevations & sections (including transformers, bus work, etc.) Equipment cable trays, cable design, conduit fill calculations Rigid bus calculations Produce drawings in specified formats with elementary diagrams, relay one-line diagrams, connection diagrams, panel layout diagrams, and circuit schedules; include materials such as relays, communication and monitoring systems, panel meters, control house panels, cables and wiring materials. Promote a proactive safety culture by encouraging open communication, reporting unsafe conditions, and suggesting safety improvements. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, conduct safety inspections, and identify hazards to mitigate risks and maintain a safe working environment.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program. Eight (8) years of professional experience in substation design and engineering for electrical utilities. Familiarity with grounding studies and/or lightning protection is a plus. Experience with Greenfields and Brownfields. General knowledge and application of IEEE Standards as they pertain to substations. Experience with power analysis software (e.g., SKM, Etap, EasyPower). Past project experience working with large utilities. Proven experience in Substation Design, including general arrangement, electrical equipment, plans, elevations and sections, cable trays, cable design, conduit fill calculations, rigid bus calculations, grounding and conduit layouts, control schematics, and wiring diagrams. Proficient in Microsoft Projects, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Ability to work remotely from Northern California, with travels to Pleasanton, Bay Area and Fresno.
Pay Range
Pay Range $135,000—$165,000/annually
