Animal Help Now (AHNow) creates apps that help animals. The orgs eponymous app provides a 911-type service for wildlife emergencies & conflicts. Each year in the U.S. billions of birds and other wild animals are killed or injured by cats & dogs, window strikes, etc. and hundreds of millions of animals are injured or killed by motor vehicles. This free app directs people who have encountered injured or distressed wildlife or are dealing with "nuisance" wildlife to the nearest, most appropriate help, 24/7. The first nationwide response system for wildlife emergencies, it provides instant access to more than 3700 wildlife helpers across the United States, including rehabilitators, rescues & hotlines, veterinarians who treat wildlife & others. AHNow provides expert guidance on how to handle domestic animal issues (lost, found, abuse, etc.).

In 2022, in the aftermath of the Marshall Fire (12/30/2021), which claimed an estimated 1,000 companion animal lives and destroyed Animal Help Nows headquarters, the organization began development of a new app that people can use to quickly and effectively communicate with their neighbors when disasters threaten and strike. The app provides a dedicated communications channel specifically for pet rescue so people who are not home or who otherwise need help evacuating animals can quickly and easily request such help. PHaR gives pets and other dependent animals their best chance ever of surviving when disasters strike.

NOTE This position is available only to persons residing in North, Central and South America. Explicit application instructions are provided below.

Animal Help Now needs an experienced social media professional and dedicated animal lover/respecter to advise the organization's outreach team on social media matters (including strategy, tagging, etc.). The outreach team's primary work involves developing materials for presentations and social media posts. The position requires 1-4 hours a week, ideally including a weekly team meeting.

This is low-hanging fruit for any outreach professional who wants to add impact to their portfolio or to help save animal lives, and it's ideal for someone who wants to do both.

Messaging is substantially developed. It focuses on the organization's established Animal Help Now app (see www.AHNow.org) and its new Pet Help and Rescue app (www.PHaR.org), a neighbors-based messaging app for evacuating neighborhood animals who are home alone when disasters strike.

The successful applicant will work closely with upper management, including the organization's co-founder.

Requirements

• Social media expertise (Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky, Wordpress Blog preferred)
• Expertise in or high familiarity with the language/culture of animal welfare/rights
• Ability to operate independently (though with support)
• Attention to detail
• Proficiency in writing and editing
• Weekly commitment of 1-4 hours
• Commitment to a minimum of six months of service
