Job Summary TheInstructional Designer works closely with the Dean of Online Learning andEnrollment andSenior Online Coordinator within the Office of Online Learning to providetechnical, instructional, and academic support of all stakeholders involvedwithin online and distance learning at the University of Southern Mississippi.This person is responsible for building and maintaining relationships withfaculty/staff/students involved in online education within the institution,providing technical and instructional support, and assisting in the creation ofengaging, interactive, and instructionally sound online programs. This personalso serves as resource for the University in the areas of AI tools,instructional multimedia production, and NC-Sara compliant training .
Primary JobDuties and Responsibilities Works closely with facultyto assist in developing engaging instructional courses and programs for on-linecourse delivery. Utilizes sound instructional strategies, needs analysis,project management and measurement for development of programs. Supportsfaculty in integrating applications of technology in instruction includingidentifying instructional problems, developing strategies using technology asan instructional tool, and evaluating the effectiveness of using technology asan instructional tool. And, providing additional faculty/staff/student supportwhen needed for the Learning Management System, other technologies incorporatedto the Learning Management System, or technologies students will utilize withintheir online courses. Develop, conduct, andevaluate faculty workshops, orientation sessions, and demonstrations of the useof technology for instruction. Prepares and produces materials for bothsynchronous and asynchronous modes of delivery. Develops effectivelearner support systems for faculty and students. Part of theseresponsibilities include maintaining a departmental YouTube channel, NC-Saracompliance Canvas 101 course, and instructional technology content on thedepartmental website. Researching, vetting,collaborating with faculty, and implementing new instructional technologies aswell as creating and updating support materials for both students and facultyto ensure successful technology adoption. Works closely with SeniorOnline Coordinator to ensure quality delivery and maintenance of LearningManagement System (LMS). Cross-list courses within the LMS at instructor'srequest. Maintain and facilitate LTI connections for specific online courses asneeded. Maintain the institution's template/blueprint courses within the LMS,create additional template/blueprint courses for departments/programs whenneeded, and ensure delivery of any/all templates/blueprints as new courses arecreated for upcoming semesters. Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations and performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited College or University, three to five years'experience within instructional design, online education, or related field. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Computer experience, both Mac and PC. Microsoft Office Suite. Instructure Canvas Admin. Instructional Design Deductive Logic. Communication skills. Multiple Synchronous Meeting Software Knowledge. Instructional multimedia production. Instructional technology assessment and implementation. Instructional design and technology support materials development. Ability to respond effectively and quickly to resolve problems.
Preferred Qualifications Minimum qualifications plus a Master's degree from a four-yearcollege or university.
