What You Will Do

The Designer, reporting to the Vice President – Client Experience, is passionate about their craft, combining creativity and technical knowledge with business skills and understanding to produce functionally beautiful spaces for clients. They have exceptional design skills, a diverse background in interior design, and a portfolio of innovative projects. They are an integral member of the design team who initiates a point of view and craves collaboration in conceptual thought process and design exploration.

You will lead design projects that include programming, conceptual design, design development and space planning. Participate in the selection and presentation of furniture, furniture systems, fabrics, color palettes, rugs, plants and lighting. Generate finish plans, specifications, and material selections. Provide design support and documentation during completion and execution of design concepts. Work with internal/external resources, product representatives, and fabricators to execute efficiently. Engage in marketing and business development efforts to build awareness of the BASK brand, share our perspective on workplace design and identify new opportunities.

Primary Focus Areas

  • Partner with Client Experience Managers to curate and present furniture applications & solutions in a way that differentiates BASK from competitors.
  • Identify, understand, and implement evolving workplace trends.
  • Develop and deliver clear presentations to guide client decision makers from ideation through specification and implementation.
  • Facilitate workshops and programming sessions as needed, to identify client needs, wants, and aspirations.
  • Develops and presents conceptual look + feel plans, block plans and space plans to gain customer approvals.
  • Develops product specifications and works with design team to strategize and execute appropriately.
  • Validates final plans against construction, electrical engineering, and A&D drawing sets; gains customer approvals.
  • Conducts site verifications and, ultimately, punch-list review with project managers and / or installation group.
  • Own the creation and ongoing improvement of customized presentation materials, including but not limited to: mood boards, look books, curated vignettes, validation packages, and user experience guides.
  • Continuously identify and evaluate new vendors and product solutions that differentiate BASK from competitors, while solving for a wide variety of functional, aesthetic, budgetary, and schedule requirements.
  • Engage, partner, and build lasting relationships across targeted A&D firms.
  • Learn process nuances of individual firms and cater BASK’s Creative Experience accordingly.

Additional Skills and Attributes

  • Software: AutoCAD, MS Office, CET Designer / Configura Smart tools.
  • Visuals: Create 2D plans and 3D visuals and presentation material sot communicate design intent (Furniture Validation Packages).
  • Design Tracking: accurately and consistently track design hours and communicate project lists with anticipated project tasks and associated hours to Design Director; keep Design Director and teammates informed of deadlines.
  • Problem Resolution: ability to approach problems resourcefully, be detail oriented and demonstrate creativity.
  • Client Relationships: help to form and maintain positive client relationships.
  • Sales: Act as a part of the sales process, by being able to demonstrate the value of design services and to bring creativity and efficiency to the table.
  • Process Adherence: Adhere to current departmental process and procedures; offer suggestions to make current process better if the opportunity is there.
  • Trade Coordination: Must have the ability to work with and communicate to various trades including, architects, engineers, electricians, contractors, installers, and internal staff.

The Experience You Will Bring

  • B.A./B.S. degree
  • 1-3 years’ experience working at a commercial furniture manufacturer or furniture dealer
  • 1-3 years’ experience coordinating multiple stakeholders to a successful outcome, preferably in a sales or consulting role.
  • Has a strong knowledge of all aspects of furniture management, including the sales process, order preparation and management, installation, and furniture project administration.
  • Hedberg software experience is preferred.
  • PC skills - Advanced level with MS Office Suite

In compliance with California’s Pay Transparency Act (SB 1162), the annual base salary range for this position is $65,000.00 - $80,000.00. The salary information is a general guideline. BASK considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
