Role Summary

We are seeking an Associate or Senior Editor with experience in environmental research to join Communications Earth & Environment. This fast-growing, multidisciplinary open access journal covers the Earth, planetary and environmental sciences. You will be responsible for selecting and preparing manuscripts for publication and for promoting the journal’s coverage of all fields within the Earth and environmental sciences, with a focus on the environmental sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Selection of manuscripts for publication with appropriate editorial oversight within the journal\'s editorial policy.
  • Enhance accessibility for readers by refining titles and introductory sections, particularly the abstract, and suggesting necessary structural changes to authors.
  • Ensure that accepted manuscripts are transferred to production in a complete and appropriate state.
  • Recommend suitable manuscripts to the Chief Editor for journal press releases and draft press releases.
  • Recruit, train, support and engage external editors, ensuring alignment with the journal\'s philosophy and policies.
  • Attend conferences and meetings and visit research institutions (in agreement with the Chief Editor) and report on these activities.
  • Advise Advertising and Marketing as required, providing questions or leads where possible.
  • Develop editorial content for special projects as agreed with the Chief Editor.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent) in one or more disciplines within climate sciences; strong candidates from all areas of the Earth and environmental sciences will be considered.
  • Editorial experience and broad training; postdoctoral experience is an asset.
  • A passion for science and a broad, demonstrated interest in scientific research beyond your specialty.
  • Ability to read and assess novelty, context and implications of interdisciplinary research submissions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Willingness to meet scientists worldwide, online and in person, and to help them understand what the journal seeks to publish.
