Starting Rate of Pay: $10 per hour

Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.

Overview

The Choral Librarian supports the university choral program by managing, organizing, and distributing music for ensembles. This student employee plays an essential role in ensuring that rehearsals and performances run smoothly by maintaining the music library, assisting with preparation of scores, and helping coordinate music logistics for the choral program.

Job Location / Hours Required

The candidate will perform most/all job duties in (Hayworth Fine Arts Center – 4th Floor).

Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires flexible hours (typically 5–10 hours per week), scheduled around rehearsals, library needs, and performances. Student will use a music department form to record hours.

Responsibilities

  • Library Management
    • Catalog, file, and organize choral scores in the library collection.
    • Maintain accurate records of music inventory, including acquisitions and returns.
    • Assist with labeling, numbering, and stamping scores for new music.
  • Music Preparation & Distribution
    • Prepare and distribute scores to choir members before rehearsals.
    • Collect music at the end of each concert cycle and ensure all parts are returned.
    • Track missing or damaged scores and report to the director.
  • Support for Choral Ensembles
    • Assist conductors and ensemble managers with music-related needs.
    • Create digital copies (when permitted) or reference materials.
    • Coordinate with ensemble officers or student leaders for efficient music handling.
  • Administrative & Logistical Duties
    • Maintain choral library space in an organized, accessible manner.
    • Occasionally assist backstage or at performances with music-related tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Current university student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Willingness to lift and transport boxes of scores (up to ~25 lbs).

Desired Skills

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Basic knowledge of music notation required; choral or ensemble experience preferred.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
