Family and Youth Initiative (DCFYI) Family & Youth Initiative (DCFYI) helps older children (12 to 21) in foster care find adoptive families and make lifelong connections with caring adults. DCFYI focuses on helping teens at risk of aging out of foster care find adoptive families and develop lasting relationships with other caring adults. We offer opportunities for adults who are not yet approved to adopt or mentor to meet and get to know teens so that relationships can grow naturally, before any formal match. We are one of very few organizations that create low barrier ways for adults to get to know and help teens in foster care. We encourage creative responses to the needs of individual teens and abilities and availability of interested adults. Join the Communications Committee at Family & Youth Initiative Family & Youth Initiative (DCFYI) seeks two dedicated volunteers to serve on our Communications Committee. We invite 21 or older individuals who are in the DC metro area with a passion for communication and a desire to contribute to our mission to apply. Position Details
Term: Two-year commitment Background: A background in communications is preferred but not required Key Responsibilities
Public Relations: Assist in publicizing the work of DCFYI to the public and media. Content Creation: Develop statements, press releases, social media content, and other materials highlighting DCFYI's initiatives, events, and ongoing efforts. The Communications Committee meets virtually once a month for up to one hour at 5:00 p.m. EST on the first Monday of the month to strategize and plan for upcoming communications needs. A social media Committee working group checks in each Monday at 3 p.m. to support staff on content management and messaging. Why Volunteer? Serving on one of our board committees provides an opportunity to connect with DCFYI’s leadership while contributing to the growth and visibility of our organization. This committee also serves as a primary pathway for volunteers to become involved in DCFYI’s governance through our Board of Directors.
