ABOUT THE JOB

The Associate Communications Manager is an integral member of the Wilson Daniels’ Communications team. The ideal candidate will have experience in all facets of communication – including media-facing, consumer-facing, and B2B – to ensure that consistent and compelling messaging about Wilson Daniels and its family of producers is delivered to the relevant audience. Primary areas of focus will be writing and editing copy, corporate and brand event management, organizing community volunteering initiatives, pitching stories to the media, and overseeing sample submissions to trade publications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/THE DAY-TO-DAY

  • Write and edit copy (company newsletters, press pitches, sales kit materials for Wilson Daniels’ suppliers, company website content, internal communications)
  • Oversee wine samples and submissions to top wine trade publications
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with relevant media to generate awareness of winery initiatives, new launches, thought leadership, or activities
  • Set up press appointments for suppliers visiting different markets throughout the US
  • Oversee and support winery partners’ participation in national trade events
  • Assist Director of Media Relations & Communications with organizing lunches/dinner and vintage releases to communicate key messaging on behalf of winery partners and Wilson Daniels with relevant and influential members of the media and digital landscape
  • Advise and work closely with the Digital Marketing & Social Media Associate in the development of strategic social media campaigns and maintenance of the Wilson Daniels website to ensure brand consistency and optimal communication timing
  • Organize volunteer days for the Wilson Daniels teams in the New York and Napa offices so we can give back to our local communities

AM I THE RIGHT FIT?

Not everyone can be an Associate Communications Manager. To be seriously considered for the role here is what you’ll bring:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, and/or Liberal Arts or equivalent experience required
  • 2-4 years Communications or Public Relations experience in-house and/or agency required, with wine and spirits background a plus

Skills:

  • Seasoned communications professional with a strong track record of success and active editorial relationships across US media a plus
  • Superb verbal, written, storytelling and editing skills, including driving engaging and consistent messaging across communications channels
  • Strong media sense; able to work closely with journalists to meet their tasting report needs, as well as to effectively pitch and shape media stories proactively and reactively
  • Organized and excellent follow-through a must; detail-oriented and deadline driven
  • Proactive, self-motivated, energized, creative, takes initiative with confidence
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Flexible; ability to adapt to changing needs/priorities; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Technologically savvy; ability to harness new media effectively with a keen understanding of all types of media/channels that will engage our external audiences
  • Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office programs
  • Muck Rack and Campaign Monitor experience a plus
  • Knowledge of SEO, keyword research, and Google Analytics a plus
  • Some overtime and travel may be required

  • Lifting and carrying: this role may involve lifting and carrying product samples, promotional materials, or demonstration equipment up to 50 lbs.
