Managing Editor

The Managing Editor plays a pivotal role in overseeing editorial operations, developing innovative programs, and driving strategic initiatives to maintain our competitive edge. This position requires advanced knowledge of editorial production, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Use advanced knowledge in producing all types of editorial content, both digital and print, to ensure high-quality output.
  • Develop and launch new programs, initiatives, and content offerings to meet the evolving needs of our audience and stay ahead of the competition.
  • Supervise and mentor 2 or more associates, providing guidance, support, and feedback to foster their growth and development.
  • Prioritize daily tasks and programs effectively, setting SMART group goals and ensuring alignment with company objectives.
  • Serve as the point of contact for editorial boards and editor-in-chiefs, fostering strong relationships and collaboration.
  • Run effective meetings and drive decision-making processes to ensure timely execution of projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate a proactive and decisive approach to decision-making, taking ownership and accountability for outcomes.
  • Uphold a positive and constructive work environment, avoiding criticism, condemnation, or complaint.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and management skills, inspiring and motivating team members to achieve their full potential.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, leveraging the strengths of team members to optimize performance.
  • Conduct content audits and implement changes to improve underperforming areas, leveraging data-driven insights.
  • Develop new content offerings or strategies to beat the competition and foster our core values of passion for winning and innovation.
  • Identify and coach direct reports on areas for growth and development, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Assess KPIs for social media and email engagement, identifying opportunities for innovation to generate, retain, or engage new audience segments.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred.
  • A lifelong learner who is always hungry to gain and apply knowledge.
  • Five or more years of experience in editorial roles, with demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.
  • Proven track record of developing and launching successful programs and initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members to achieve excellence.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively.
  • Comfortable making decisions and driving results, with a proactive and decisive approach to problem-solving.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and constructive work environment, in alignment with our core values.
  • Proficiency in conducting content audits and leveraging data-driven insights to drive strategic decision-making.
  • Creative thinking and innovation, with the ability to develop new content offerings and strategies to stay ahead of the competition.

Compensation Range:
$70,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on qualifications. Eligible for annual company bonus program or commission incentive based on role. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for this position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills, and professional experience.
