CWG Architecture and Interiors is offering an exciting interior design opportunity in Helena, Montana. The Interior Design Director will collaborate with dynamic and innovative architects, a designer, and office, marketing, and project managers in a firm that is growing with the city of Helena. This is an opportunity to lead CWG’s interior design efforts and partner with the principals. The Professional Interior Design Director is the representative for the Interior Design Department and is responsible for business/client development. They strategically plan interior design functions and manage projects for the department. As a designer, they create functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing spaces by assessing space requirements, determining optimal furniture placement, and selecting decorative items, in accordance with relevant blueprints, building codes, and inspection requirements.
What we're looking for: The successful candidate will:
Have completed a degree, primary area of study in interior design, plus five years of related professional experience.
At minimum, offer 1-3 years’ experience in a design firm or architecture environment.
The Interior Design Director will:
Plans and leads the work of the Interior Design Department, including marketing, business development, projects, client relationships, and the department’s budget.
Works collaboratively with clients and interior design staff to determine initial goals and requirements for the space to be designed.
Collaborates with architects, interior design staff, engineers, and contractors to further understand how interior space should function, appear, and be furnished.
Analyzes movement and use patterns of the space.
Prepares sketches or other visual aids to demonstrate preliminary designs to clients.
Consults with clients to select materials, fixtures, and furnishings.
Uses design applications to prepare and illustrate final plans.
Works with I.D. staff to determine timelines and project costs and presents accurate estimates to clients.
Orders or obtains necessary material samples, adhering to project and budget specifications.
Works with I.D. staff to oversee the installation of materials, furniture, and other design elements.
Ensures client satisfaction by visiting the project on completion with the client & I.D. staff; resolves any complaints or concerns.
Maintains current knowledge of design elements, including trends and materials, techniques, and other developments in interior design.
The ideal: You will have:
Coursework in computer-aided design (CAD).
Experience as a manager or supervisor.
Knowledge of drafting and drawing.
Knowledge of design, the structural integrity of buildings, local codes, regulations and standards, anthropometry, ergonomics, spatial concepts, psychology, etc.
Strong budgeting and planning skills.
Skills to create visual representations of structures.
Self-motivation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Strong visual design skills, including proportion and aesthetics.
Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in an autonomous environment and grow individual design style with immediate project impact.
Ability to collaborate with other designers in a design studio environment.
Ability to apply a sense of style to create aesthetically pleasing interiors.
Ability to use computer-aided design (CAD) software (primarily Revit).
Ability to communicate clearly with project team members, clients, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
Ability to inspire and supervise staff.
